Hollyoaks’ Jessica Fox praises young actors in sibling abuse storyline

As a cinephile and someone who has followed Hollyoaks closely for years, I am deeply moved by the powerful storyline surrounding Frankie and JJ’s sibling abuse. The talent and dedication of Isabelle Smith and Ryan Mulvey in portraying such complex characters is truly inspiring.

This article contains discussions of sexual abuse that some may find upsetting.

Jessica Fox discussed the gifted newcomers playing central roles in Hollyoaks’ emotionally taxing sibling abuse storyline.

In the show, Isabelle Smith portrays Fox’s on-screen stepdaughter Frankie. Since their childhood, she has endured abuse at the hands of her twin brother, Ryan Mulvey’s character, named JJ.

So far, Nancy and her husband, played by Ashley Taylor Dawson as their father Darren Osborne, remain oblivious to the recent developments.

Suzanne Ashworth, played by Gina McKee, joined Frankie and JJ’s mother rank in the village among their other family members, Hannah included, during January of this year. Both she and they were present in the dark.

She often remarks that Hollyoaks feels like a close-knit family, with the Osbornes being particularly protective. Isabelle and Ryan are exceptional young talents on the show, demonstrating impressive dedication and preparation for their roles. Witnessing their thoughtful approach to scenes is truly motivating for budding actors.

As one of the more experienced members, along with Ash portraying Darren, it’s our responsibility to create an optimal environment for their acting abilities to shine.

I’ve seen how dedicated Deputy Headteacher Nancy is to helping students like Frankie. Yet, she remains oblivious to the challenges unfolding within her own household.

As a movie buff and someone who’s lived through similar experiences, I can relate to Nancy’s story. In the past, I was victimized by my ex-husband Jake Dean, portrayed by Kevin Sacre, and a teen student named Finn O’Connor, played by Keith Rice. These events left deep scars that still linger within me. Could Hollyoaks recognize Nancy’s strength and resilience, making her an integral part of Frankie’s support system when the truth about her past finally surfaces? It would be a powerful and moving storyline, one that I would eagerly watch unfold on screen.

“Fox agreed wholeheartedly,” he replied. “Unfortunately, Nancy has endured unwanted sexual assaults in the past, yet she hasn’t received the satisfactory resolution she deserved.”

As a movie reviewer, I can tell you that in this story, the character Nancy holds a deep desire within her heart. She yearns to help Frankie obtain the justice they both seek. Nancy wants Frankie to feel heard and valued, to believe that their voice matters. This compassionate motivation drives Nancy forward.
