Honey Lemon Soda Release Date Confirmed With New Trailer and Promo: Watch

As a dedicated fan of shojo manga and anime, I can confidently say that the upcoming adaptation of Mayu Murata’s “Honey Lemon Soda” has me bubbling with excitement! Having grown up reading classics like Fruits Basket and Ai Yazawa’s Paradise Kiss, it’s heartening to see a new series that pays homage to these timeless stories while also infusing a fresh, modern twist.

In recent years, Shojo genre has seen a remarkable resurgence, boasting an unprecedented number of anime adaptations based on popular manga from magazines such as Hana to Yume and Ribon. Series like “A Sign of Affection”, “My Happy Marriage”, and the reboot of “Fruits Basket” have underscored the fact that this demographic is experiencing a surge in popularity. One of the upcoming anime series for 2025, the adaptation of Mayu Murata’s “Honey Lemon Soda”, has generated much excitement within the Shojo community and recently unveiled its trailer to build anticipation among fans.

Honey Lemon Soda’s Success Is a Testament to a Classic Formula

Despite a familiar premise for shojo titles, Honey Lemon Soda stands out by enhancing and refining an old shojo formula to great acclaim. This manga debuted in Ribon magazine back in December 2015, with over 12 million copies distributed as of February 2024. Furthermore, it was recognized in the 45th Kodansha Manga Awards nominations for the shojo category.

Back in 2020, before Honey Lemon Soda graced our screens as an anime, it had already made waves in the entertainment world. Not only did it gain popularity among readers, but it also managed to expand into different mediums. A live-action adaptation was one of these ventures, and I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw Raul from Snow Man, a group I adore, playing Kai Miura! To make things even better, the fabulous Ai Yoshikawa portrayed Uka Ishimori. The film was a massive hit in Japan, and to top it off, it included some catchy tunes from none other than Snow Man themselves!

The forthcoming anime production by J.C. Staff is generating a great deal of excitement, having been announced back in March 2024. Notably, Hiroshi Nishikori, known for his work on Azumanga Daioh and A Certain Magical Index, will be directing this adaptation. Additional crew members include Akika Waba (from BanG Dream! It’s MyGO!!!!!, Noragami), who will oversee series composition and scriptwriting, and Aimi Tanaka, responsible for character design.

The anime version of “Honey Lemon Soda” boasts an impressive lineup of voice actors. Notable names like Shougo Yano (known for his role as Mafuyu in “Given”), Kana Ichinose (who played Fern in “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End”), Rie Takahashi (Emilia from “Re:Zero”), Shunichi Toki (Teppei in “Blue Lock”), Taku Yashiro (Kouichi in “Horimiya”), and Miyari Nemoto (Pikachu in “Pokemon Evolutions”) are part of this talented ensemble. The anime debut will premiere on January 8, 2024, and can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
