Horizon Zero Dawn Movie Announced

The critically acclaimed action role-playing game, “Horizon Zero Dawn,” is being transformed into a cinematic production. At Sony’s 2025 CES Press Conference, it was revealed that PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures are in the initial stages of developing a feature film based on Guerilla Games’ “Horizon Zero Dawn.” The forthcoming movie will be an adaption of the 2017 video game and will focus on the backstory of Aloy, set in a futuristic post-apocalyptic landscape teeming with robotic creatures. A release date has not yet been disclosed, and no creative personnel have been confirmed as of now.

Horizon Zero Dawn is about Aloy, a scout, who ventures through a post-apocalyptic landscape to uncover her past and gain acceptance into the Nora, a tough matriarchal tribe of hunter-gatherers residing in Wyoming’s Yellowstone National Park during winter. Throughout her adventure, she encounters robotic beings and various tribes.

Horizon Zero Dawn Is Coming to the Big Screen

The game titled “Horizon Zero Dawn” garnered acclaim from critics due to its captivating storyline, expansive open-world environment, stunning visuals, engaging combat system, and exceptional acting, particularly by Ashly Burch as Aloy. This game was a big winner in numerous award ceremonies and is among the top-selling titles for PlayStation 4, with more than 24.3 million units sold as of April 2023. The franchise thrived further with an expansion and a sequel, “Horizon Forbidden West,” which made its debut on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2022. More recently, the remastered version of “Horizon Zero Dawn” became available for PC and PlayStation 5, while “LEGO Horizon Adventures” was introduced on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC.

As a passionate fan, I can’t help but get excited when I hear about more PlayStation games making the leap to the big screen! Although details are scarce on this particular project, it’s clear that Sony is committed to bringing some of our favorite titles to life. At the same event, we were treated to concept art for a movie based on Until Dawn, as well as announcements for a live-action Helldivers film and an anime series for Ghost of Tsushima, currently in development with Takanobu Mizuno and Gen Urobuchi. This continues the trend of PlayStation Productions expanding its portfolio, following adaptations like Twisted Metal, The Last of Us, Gran Turismo, and Uncharted. Here’s to hoping we get some amazing stories based on these iconic games!

It’s no wonder that Columbia Pictures is part of the project, given their affiliation with Sony, and the fact that they are currently working on bringing several popular video games like “The Legend of Zelda,” “Uncharted 2,” and “Street Fighter” to the big screen.
