  • Horizon Zero Dawn is an action-RPG developed by Guerrilla Games that first launched on PlayStation 4 back in February 2017.

  • During the September 2024 PlayStation State of Play, Sony revealed Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered.
  • Featuring enhanced graphics to match the sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is slated to launch on Oct. 31, 2024.

As a seasoned video game analyst with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the latest announcements from Sony are music to my ears. The remastering and remaking of classic games is a smart move by the company, catering to both new and old fans alike.

The whispers were true, and another PlayStation remaster is on the way.

At the September 2024 PlayStation State of Play event, it was announced that Guerrilla Games and Nixxes Software are joining forces once more. Their goal this time is to remaster Horizon Zero Dawn, with the aim of updating its graphics to match those seen in its sequel, Horizon Forbidden West. The remastered version will be available on both PlayStation 5 and Windows PC starting October 31, 2024.

You can take a look at the remaster in action with the video below:

PlayStation informs us that Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered can be purchased as an affordable upgrade, priced at just $10, by those who already own the initial game.

Horizon Zero Dawn debuted on PlayStation 4 back in 2017, marking the start of a series of PlayStation Studios games available on Windows PCs, with a version released in 2020. Simultaneously, developer Guerrilla optimized the game to run at 60 frames per second on the PlayStation 5.

Even more Horizon is coming

The LEGO Horizon Adventures video game, similar to the Horizon series, will be released soon, with a scheduled date of November 14, 2024. It will be available on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch platforms.

Based on its LEGO-inspired theme, this game primarily focuses on cooperative gameplay where participants select characters such as Aloy and Varl, and destroy miniaturized LEGO renditions of machines like the Thunderjaw.

PlayStation is pushing remasters and remakes

Lately, we’ve been seeing an increasing number of remakes and remasters from PlayStation Studios being lined up for release.

Recently, Sony revealed plans for a revamped version of the 2015 horror adventure game Until Dawn from Supermassive Games, now being developed by Ballistic Moon in the U.K. This updated edition boasts fresh graphics utilizing Unreal Engine 5 and a new soundtrack. The release date is set for October 4, 2024, on both PC and PlayStation 5 platforms.

As a tech-savvy gamer, I can’t help but get excited by the whispers that the 2019 masterpiece Days Gone from Bend Studio might be getting a remaster for both PlayStation 5 and PC platforms. For now, it’s still just speculation, but if it’s true, it’s a rumor I can’t wait to see confirmed!
