Hotel Portofino moves from ITV to U and U&Drama – season 2 to air in UK

As a cinema enthusiast with a soft spot for historical dramas and a penchant for European productions, I am absolutely thrilled about the acquisition of Hotel Portofino by UKTV! Having spent countless hours immersed in the golden age of Hollywood and the glamour of the Italian Riviera on the silver screen, this series feels like a perfect blend of my two passions.

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve learned UKTV has snapped up the exquisite historical drama, Hotel Portofino! Originally aired on ITV back in 2023, this series is now under UKTV’s wing

The show featuring Natascha McElhone, Mark Umbers, and Anna Chancellor is set to broadcast on channels U and U&Drama for British audiences. Notably, two more seasons have already been produced and are currently being aired internationally

Starting from Friday, September 27th, the first season of this show will air again on several channels. The second season’s UK debut, which hasn’t been specified yet, is scheduled for a later date in 2024

The show unfolds as it chronicles the Ainsworth family, who open an exclusive hotel for the well-heeled along the Italian coastline during the 1920s. McElhone portrays one of the joint owners, the character named Bella

In this version, Chancellor plays the role of one of her numerous demanding visitors, Lady Latchmere, as the initial season unfolds. Simultaneously, Bella found herself under the menacing gaze of a deceitful and morally questionable local politician who aimed to entangle her in the tumultuous political environment of Mussolini’s Italy

In the second season, Bella’s son Lucian (played by Oliver Dench) makes an appearance in Portofino. Simultaneously, she faces the harsh truth about her troubled marriage to her unfaithful husband, Cecil (portrayed by Umbers)

Regarding the acquisition, Jo McGrath, creative head at Eagle Eye Production, expressed her joy: “The adventures of the Ainsworth family have fascinated and amused viewers across Europe and the U.S. for quite some time. Now, I’m thrilled that British audiences can finally experience all three seasons of this popular series themselves.”

Emma Ayech, channel director at U&Drama, expressed her “thrill” about including Hotel Portofino in their lineup and further stated, “The enchanting scenery of the Italian Riviera serves as an ideal remedy for those chilly autumn evenings. So, we eagerly anticipate our audience immersing themselves in this production.”

Hotel Portofino will be available to stream for free on U.
