House of the Dragon: Every Living Dragon We Know About in Season 2

Vhagar

In simpler terms, Vhagar is the largest and most menacing dragon character in the series. She developed an alliance with the cruel Aemond, and together they have demonstrated their strength by defeating two separate dragons during the first two seasons of the show.

The dragon Vhagar, who survives from Aegon’s Conquest, dwarfs all other dragons in the series with her immense size. Rhaenyra acknowledges this disparity and believes she needs more dragons to stand a chance against Vhagar, despite the Greens having fewer dragons than the Blacks. The dragon belonging to Aemond is a formidable force worth multiple dragons.

Syrax

Unfortunately, Syrax has had a limited role in “House of the Dragon” Season 2 thus far. However, fans were treated to a thrilling appearance of hers towards the end of episode 6.

During the Dance of the Dragons conflict, Rhaenyra has been shielded from the fighting and protected by her dragon, Syrax, who is strongly connected to her. However, as the battle rages on, prepare for more appearances of Syrax in the skies.

Caraxes

The black faction’s most powerful dragon is Caraxes, which Daemon rides, while Syrax serves as Rhaenyra’s mount.

A fearsome dragon with fiery red scales is a formidable warrior, unrivaled in strength, and possibly the only creature capable of standing up to Vhagar. However, Daemon, who once resided at Dragonstone, has been absent for most of the season, pursuing his own self-serving goals at Harrenhal. Despite having a dragon, Caraxes, that could benefit Rhaenyra, Daemon has neglected it in favor of raising his own army.

Sunfyre

The condition of Sunfyre, mount of Aegon II, is uncertain at best. He was gravely hurt during the Battle of Rook’s Rest, receiving wounds from both allies and enemies.

Aegon is receiving medical attention from the maesters in King’s Landing as he recovers from his wounds. Unfortunately, Sunfyre, Aegon’s dragon, remained at Rook’s Rest for treatment as well. Some speculate that Sunfyre might not make it, while others hold the belief that he has already passed away. In any case, this season has been unfavorable for Aegon and his dragon.

Dreamfyre

I’m a huge fan of “House of the Dragon,” and one intriguing character for me is Helaena Targaryen. She’s Aegon’s twin sister and wife, and her bonded dragon is none other than Dreamfyre. Unlike many members of her esteemed family, Helaena isn’t an active rider. Therefore, poor Dreamfyre hasn’t graced our screens since the first season.

Although it hasn’t been confirmed, “Fire & Blood” hints that Dreamfyre could be the mother of the dragons born to Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones. This implies, but doesn’t guarantee, her significance in the story.

Vermax

Prince Jacaerys Targaryen formed a strong connection with the vibrant green and orange dragon named Vermax during his childhood. Due to Jacaerys’ exceptional ability, he was able to control Vermax at an impressively young age. Over the years, they have grown up side by side, deepening their bond.

Moondancer

Moondancer may not match the grandeur of larger, elder dragons such as Vhagar in terms of size and strength. However, she distinguishes herself through remarkable speed and nimbleness.

Moondancer had a strong connection with Baela Targaryen since they were only children. Their relationship was significant enough that it stood out during Season 2, particularly when Baela flew above to drive away Criston Cole’s troops.

Seasmoke

Since Season 1 of “House of the Dragon,” Seasmoke has been unridden following Laenor Velaryon’s feigned demise and clandestine departure. Now, that’s about to change due to Addam of Hull.

In the final episode, Rhaenyra, riding Syax, was met by Seasmoke at the shore. Her curiosity led her to identify the rider as Addam, Corlys Velaryon’s son. Thankfully, Addam wasn’t there to cause harm.

Vermithor & Silverwing

Rhaenyra seeks to recruit additional dragonriders due to Vermithor’s significance. Vermithor, the mount of the late King Jaehaerys I, is the second largest and oldest living dragon, ranking behind only Vhagar in size and age.

In the first season, Daemon made an effort to reach out to Vermithor, but was unsuccessful. In the second season, however, Vermithor and his companion Silverwing continue to dwell deep under Dragonstone, as of now devoid of riders. This situation is expected to shift before the end of the season.

Sheepstealer

In the recent episode of “House of the Dragon,” although Sheepstealer the dragon hasn’t made an appearance yet, it is strongly suggested that the beast resides there based on discoveries made by Rhaena. While roaming through the Vale of Arryn, she stumbled upon a scorched patch of ground and deceased sheep. Subsequently, she learned that a wild dragon has been wreaking havoc in that region.

In “Fire & Blood,” a girl named Nettles manages to tame Sheepstealer, making her a dragonrider and an addition to Rhaenyra’s forces. Fans of the show are intrigued as Nettles has not been introduced yet, raising questions about whether Rhaena might assume this role and form a connection with Sheepstealer instead.

Hatchlings and Eggs

Two tiny hatchling dragons, Stormcloud and Tyraxes, are the pets of Rhaenyra’s sons Aegon III and Viserys. In an attempt to shield them from the ongoing conflict, Rhaenyra took these dragons along with her daughters Rhaena and their brothers, and sent them to live in the Vale of Arryn.

Rhaena was also sent with a collection of dragon eggs, one of which could hold the dragon Morning, whom she bonds with in Fire & Blood. There is also the prevailing theory that those dragon eggs are the same ones that eventually make it to Daenerys more than a century after House of the Dragon, though the show’s creative team have been going back and forth on that.
