House of the Dragon Season 3 Adds Little Women Star in Key Role

Actor James Norton, known for his role in “Little Women”, has been chosen to play the character Ormund Hightower in “House of the Dragon” Season 3. According to Variety, this will be the first time we’ll see Ormund on-screen, as he was previously mentioned only through dialogue during Season 2. In that season, it was revealed that Ormund was readying himself for a departure from Oldtown. The character description suggests that Ormund and his troops are heading to King’s Landing to bolster his family against Rhaenyra. Ormund is the uncle of Otto Hightower and cousin to Alicent and Gwayne Hightower.

Beyond playing John Brooke in Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of “Little Women,” Norton has also been featured in numerous films and television shows. He received a BAFTA nomination for his performance in the TV series “Happy Valley.” Notable mentions also include appearances on “Doctor Who” and “Black Mirror.

It was confirmed by HBO that the third season of “House of the Dragon” won’t start until at least mid-2026. In the meantime, another “Game of Thrones” spinoff titled “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” is set to premiere this year. Unfortunately, there’s no information available yet about when production for the third season of “House of the Dragon” will begin.

The second season of “House of the Dragon” ended on a suspenseful note, leading directly into the anticipated conflict between the Black and Green factions. One character, Ormund, who belongs to the Green faction, is expected to play a significant role as the civil war escalates. It will be captivating to observe any divergences in his character when contrasted with the original source material. “House of the Dragon” is adapted from George R.R. Martin’s book “Fire & Blood,” but there are notable disparities between the two. Last year, Martin stirred controversy by criticizing certain alterations made to the “Blood and Cheese” sequence in the show, hinting at further contentious butterflies as the series progresses. It remains to be seen whether Ormund’s role in the storyline will be one of those changes, but only time will tell for sure.

It’s likely that filming for Season 3 of “House of the Dragon” will begin soon, considering its potential return next year. To allow ample time for post-production tasks like complex visual effects, it seems necessary for the main photography to occur this year itself. We’re eager to find out if any other actors will join Matt Smith (Norton) as fresh faces in the series’ talented cast.
