House of the Dragon’s Emma D’Arcy leads short film from Black Mirror director

As a fan who has been following Emma D’Arcy’s career since her days on Wanderlust and Waking the Dead, it’s always a thrill to see her take on new roles that challenge her acting abilities. Her transformation into Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon was nothing short of spectacular, but I must say, the dark and intriguing character she plays in Rhoda is a whole new level.

Actress Emma D’Arcy will share screen time with Juliet Stevenson in the upcoming short movie titled Rhoda. The film is scheduled for its first public screening at the London Film Festival this evening, specifically on the 9th of October.

As a passionate film lover, I can’t help but share my excitement about a captivating short film written and directed by the talented Alex Lawther, who you might recognize from his roles in Black Mirror and The End of the F***ing World. In his own words, this short film serves as a thought-provoking response to a modern conundrum: the desire for interaction, yet the fear that often accompanies it. (Source: Deadline)

Stevenson (Truly, Madly, Deeply) plays Rhoda, a woman who is used to living alone.

D’Arcy, famed for portraying Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s acclaimed series House of the Dragon, assumes the role of Louis, an enigmatic boarder that Rhoda invites into her home. This mysterious guest’s arrival triggers a sequence of unsettling occurrences within the household.

The dark tale isn’t the first time Lawther and D’Arcy have worked together on a project.

Together, the duo collaborated on Lawther’s debut short film titled “For People in Trouble.” This project featured Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as producers, along with Archie Madekwe, who is known for his roles in Midsommar and Saltburn, as a cast member.

The London Film Festival debut will be succeeded by another screening this month, as hinted on its official Instagram account, suggesting further screenings are planned in the future.

Rhoda will have its debut during the London Film Festival at BFI Southbank on the 9th of October at 8:45 PM, with a second showing scheduled for the 14th of October at 9 PM also at BFI Southbank. Additional screenings may be announced in the future.
