This summer marks the start of a fresh journey for the Jurassic World series, and ahead of this year’s Super Bowl, fans got a sneak peek of the action. Universal unveiled the official trailer for Jurassic World: Rebirth during the Big Game recently. As stated by director Gareth Edwards and screenwriter David Koepp, this new installment in the Jurassic World franchise is an attempt to return to the essence that made Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park so captivating, distancing itself from much of the tone and style of the recent Jurassic World trilogy.
Edwards discussed his intention to create a frightening film, similar to the 1993 original, while Koepp focused on maintaining an atmosphere of suspense within the confines of the story. With the release of the trailer and additional information about the film, it has become clear that there are not just shared atmospheres but also direct on-screen connections between Jurassic World Rebirth and the original Jurassic Park.
One clear and significant link between the two movies is their location. In Jurassic World: Dominion, a team ventures to an equatorial island with the goal of locating dinosaurs for DNA extraction, potentially contributing to an extraordinary medical advancement. Interestingly, this island, according to the trailer, is none other than the same one where the original Jurassic Park research facilities were established.
The team plans on investigating every facility where dinosaurs were initially crafted and trialed before their release within Jurassic Park. This will likely include some of the “missteps” or failures that miraculously survived, growing increasingly menacing with time.
As a die-hard Jurassic Park fan, I’m thrilled to share that one of the fresh faces in the Jurassic World Rebirth franchise seems to have a past with one of the original stars. The enigmatic Dr. Henry Loomis, portrayed by Jonathan Bailey, has hinted at a connection with the iconic Dr. Alan Grant from the original Jurassic Park. The specifics are still under wraps, but I can hardly wait to see how this connection unfolds!
Bailey mentioned, “I’ve long aspired to impress Dr. Alan Grant.” As for the connection between them, you’ll have to stay tuned to find out.
The primary link between the films, as we understand currently, is a sequence originally intended for “Jurassic Park” but removed during production. In Michael Crichton’s “Jurassic Park” novel, a scene depicts Grant and two children attempting to silently navigate a raft past a slumbering T-Rex. Screenwriter Koepp could not incorporate this scene into the original Jurassic Park film, but he always aimed to bring it to life on screen. Eventually, he included a revised version of this scene in “Jurassic World Dominion”.
Jurassic World Rebirth hits theaters on July 2nd.
