As a working mother myself, I deeply resonate with Meghan’s sentiments. The choices she and Harry made to prioritize their family during those critical early months are a testament to their values and priorities. It’s heartening to see a public figure emphasize the importance of family over work, especially in an era where the juggling act between career and parenthood is often overwhelming.
Prince Harry is entering a new decade with a new outlook.
Prince Harry, reaching the age of 40 on September 15th, offered a glimpse into his thoughts as this significant birthday nears.
In a statement given to BBC on September 13th, Harry expressed that while he was apprehensive at the age of 30, he’s now thrilled about turning 40. Regardless of his age, he emphasized that his objective remains the same: consistently appearing and making a positive impact in the world.
The British monarch, who is father to Archie, aged 5, and Lilibet, aged 3, together with Meghan Markle, has disclosed that he intends to celebrate his birthdate privately with his family first, followed by a joyous excursion with some companions afterwards.
And the royal couldn’t help but gush about his children while reflecting on his upcoming birthday.
Harry shared, “Having two exceptionally kind and amusing children has provided me with a new outlook on life, and my work has become even more precise as a result. Fatherhood is an unparalleled source of joy, and it’s made me more dedicated to making the world a better place.
The Invictus Games founder added that he’s ready for the next 10 years of his life, saying, “bring on the next decade.”
Harry’s remarks on fatherhood were made approximately a month following the time when he and Meghan discussed their parenting strategies during their first joint interview in three years, sharing insights into their approach as parents.
In the August 4 interview on CBS Sunday Morning, Meghan expressed, “Our children are still quite young. They’re truly remarkable. Yet, as parents, all we can think about is safeguarding them.
She stated, “The online world clearly needs improvement, and we’re thrilled to contribute positively to those changes.
Harry offered some guidance along with a chilling caution to every parent seeking to supervise their kid’s internet usage.
He stated that we’ve reached a stage where most parents are essentially required to act as immediate responders. Remarkably, even the most skilled first responders worldwide might not be able to recognize indicators of potential suicide. This is the chilling aspect of the situation.
More recently, it was Meghan who shared insight into how she aims to inspire their daughter.
At the Afro Women and Power event on August 18, she expressed that her inspiration comes from the powerful women surrounding her, including her mother. Rather than focusing on conflict, she emphasized the importance of entering spaces with love, kindness, and generosity as a means to influence.
She continued by saying, “Those aspects spark my creativity.” She shared a sentiment many can relate to – the frustration of not being able to express oneself when it matters most. She strongly advises our little one, who already confidently uses her voice at just 3 years old, and they couldn’t be prouder.

He said to Sky News in 2015, when asked if the arrival of his niece Princess Charlotte prompted thoughts of settling down, “I believe these things can’t be rushed. They’ll happen when they’re meant to.” He further explained that while he’d love to have children now, there are steps one must take first.
Back in the day, I couldn’t help but develop a deep affection for the Cartier French Tank watch. When I learned that our hit show, Suits, was renewed for a third season – a moment that felt monumental at the time – I simply had to treat myself. So, I went ahead and bought the two-toned version of this beautiful timepiece. I even got it engraved with ‘To M.M. From M.M.’ on the back, with the intention of passing it down to my precious daughter someday.
Fatherhood is a subject that—along with marriage—has long trailed Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana‘s younger son. “There have been moments through life, especially when we do a tour abroad, when I think, ‘I’d love to have kids now’… And then there are other times when I bury my head in the sand going, ‘All right, don’t need kids!’ There’s no rush. I tell you what: There’s been times I’ve been put off having children,” he admitted to People back in May 2016, shortly before meeting his future wife.
2017 saw the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announce their engagement and give their initial joint interview together. It wasn’t long before the question about having children came up. “Absolutely,” Prince Harry replied, adding, “I think we take things one step at a time, and hopefully, we’ll start our family soon.” Meghan smiled next to him as they spoke.
Meghan expressed it as enchanting when she talked about motherhood after Archie was born. She found it incredibly wonderful, and with her two fantastic men by her side, she is truly content.
After Archie was born in May 2019, Harry expressed his joy by saying, “This has been an incredible, unimaginable experience. I can’t fathom how women go through what they do, but we are both overjoyed and deeply grateful for the love and support from everyone around us. It’s all been so wonderful that we wanted to share our happiness with everyone.
2019 saw Harry delivering a speech at the National Youth Mentoring Summit, where he pondered over the valuable lessons he’s garnered since becoming a parent. He expressed, “Today, I find myself struck by several things, with the most profound being the hidden influence of role models. There may be someone here who doesn’t realize they are being watched and admired—they draw inspiration from you to become kinder, more virtuous, more accomplished, and more influential. As a father, this newfound understanding that my son is constantly observing me, imitating my actions, and perhaps even aspiring to walk in my footsteps has given me great clarity.
In 2020, during a public appearance, Prince Harry expressed that our dear one is our utmost priority. However, following this, our responsibilities come second. Essentially, we’re striving hard to contribute in any way possible towards making the world a more positive and improved place.
During the coronavirus pandemic, Harry and Meghan discovered a positive aspect thanks to their son Archie. As Meghan expressed in October 2020, “In numerous ways, we are fortunate to have this time to observe him grow. Normally, without COVID-19, we would be traveling and working more, leaving us to miss out on many of those precious moments.” She added, “Therefore, I believe it has been a lot of quality family time.
Harry remarked, “Both of us witnessed Archie’s initial steps, his first sprint, his first stumble, all of it.
In May 2021, Meghan appeared seldomly on television during Global Citizen’s VAX Live concert aimed at reuniting the world. On this occasion, the former actress discussed her pregnancy and expressed her joy about raising a daughter. She stated, “My spouse and I are eager to welcome our upcoming daughter. We feel an overwhelming sense of happiness that is shared by countless families worldwide.” Reflecting on their daughter, they thought of all the young women and girls globally who deserve the opportunity and encouragement to lead us into the future.
She stated, “The course of their future leadership hinges on the choices we make and the steps we take today, ensuring a prosperous, fair, and empathetic tomorrow not only for them but also for us.
In a fleeting appearance on her spouse’s Apple TV+ series titled The Me You Can’t See, co-starring Oprah, Meghan is seen wearing a shirt expressing affection for her expanding family, which reads: “Nurturing Tomorrow”.
On June 4th, their little girl was born to the couple. They expressed their joy in a post on their Archewell Foundation page: “Our hearts are full as we introduce Lili, our precious daughter who exceeds all our expectations. We’ve felt an overwhelming outpouring of love and prayers worldwide, for which we are truly grateful. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this wonderful time in our family.
On June 8, 2021, Meghan will unveil her debut children’s book titled “The Bench“. This book is a heartfelt tribute to fatherhood as seen through a mother’s eyes. In a statement released in May, she explained that the story originated from a poem she wrote for her spouse on Father’s Day, a month after their son Archie was born, which evolved into this narrative.
In a letter dated October 2021, addressed to then-House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Chuck Schumer, Meghan expressed her joy but also her feeling of being swamped upon the birth of her daughter amidst the ongoing pandemic, which had disrupted normal operations in hospitals, schools, and other such establishments.
Unlike many parents, we had the luxury of not having to face the difficult decision between staying with our newborn during those crucial initial months or returning to work. We were fortunate enough to be able to bring our baby home and dedicate all our time and energy to our children and family during that vital (and significant) phase. This allowed us to avoid the daily struggles that many parents face when it comes to balancing childcare, employment, and healthcare choices.
Meghan went on to say, “No family ought to find themselves in a position where they must make such difficult choices. No family should have to balance earning a living against the ability to care for their child (or a relative, or themselves, which is something that would be alleviated with a comprehensive paid leave policy).
In April 2022, as reported on TODAY, Harry mentioned that combining parenting responsibilities with his work-from-home schedule proved to be almost impossible.
Archie interjects during our Zoom meetings more frequently than anyone else,” he noted. “Additionally, he seems to get called upon quite regularly, which is rather interesting.
Harry observed that his son was beginning to show a similar playful wit as himself. “I make it a point to nurture that trait,” he said. “I believe that a touch of mischief helps one stay lively and spirited.
Meghan admitted she was concerned for her—and everybody else’s—kids in the age of social media.
In October 2023, during a talk at the Archewell Foundation Parents’ Summit on Mental Wellness in the Digital Age (which was part of Project Healthy Minds’ World Mental Health Day), she expressed that being a mother is the most significant aspect of her life, apart from being married to Harry.
She continued, “Allow me to express my gratitude for the stage our kids are currently in, they’re still quite young. However, I must confess a sense of apprehension about how things are evolving, as we can see, it’s an issue that lies ahead of us.
As a parent, Meghan pointed out that life seems to move quickly, with each day stretching out yet the years passing swiftly. In this context, she emphasized her concern about how everyone is impacted by the digital realm and social media, expressing a collective desire for security in these spaces.
Meghan said to a group of kindergarten students during her visit to Lightway Academy in Abuja, Nigeria in May 2024, “Our daughter, Lili, is incredibly small compared to all of you. She’s nearly 3 years old now. A few weeks ago, she looked at me and said, ‘Mama, I can see myself in your eyes.’
In her response, Meghan said, “She spoke quite literally at the moment.” However, I interpreted her words differently. It struck me, “Indeed, I recognize myself in you, and vice versa.
