As a mother and a woman who has navigated the complexities of modern-day society, I find Rumer Willis to be an inspiring figure. Her journey as a mother, her openness about breastfeeding, and her advocacy for women’s sexuality and body positivity resonate deeply with me.
Growing up with parents Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, who starred in numerous roles, including Rumer Willis herself starting from 1995’s “Now and Then,” she felt that there was one character she was meant to embody: a mother role.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’ve always been clear about this: it wasn’t something that needed questioning for me. From the get-go, I’ve just known what my path was.
Back in April 2023, Rumer and her musician partner, Derek Richard Thomas, became parents to their little girl named Louetta Isley Thomas Willis. It seems as though fate played a role in selecting this name for their child.
Last August, the founder of Rumer Has It clarified to a magazine that the name Loretta was actually a typo. In a text exchange with her father, he had mistakenly left out the “R” from Loretta, leaving Louetta instead. She immediately took a liking to it and decided to keep the name.
Though, the moniker also has deeper meaning.
In a post on Instagram Stories last December, I shared my affection for the name Lou, considering it suitable for either a boy or a girl. However, upon learning that she was a girl, we decided to create a variation – Louetta. We wanted to offer her the possibility of choosing among names and my father’s favorite musicians are Lou (Louie Armstrong), Etta (Etta James), and Isley (Isley Brothers).
Regarding the feelings of Bruce Willis, who is a father to daughters Scout (33), Tallulah (30) from his previous relationship with Demi Moore, as well as Mabel (12) and Evelyn (10) from his current marriage with Emma Heming Willis, about being a grandfather?
In an interview with Today in May, Rumer described Bruce Willis as a loving father to their daughter, saying, “He truly embodies the role of a ‘daddy’s girl’ dad. His affectionate behavior towards her brings back memories of how I saw him with my own little sisters.” This is especially noticeable now due to his condition, which has made him seem more childlike and sweet.
And Demi is loving being grandma to Louetta, too.
The Ghost actress shared with TopMob News in January that she’s simply delightful, echoing common phrases. It’s like having endless fun and happiness, and then getting to retire early for a peaceful night’s rest.
When it comes to parenting her daughter, Rumer is choosing a different approach compared to how her mom raised her. In April 2023, Rumer Willis became a mother for the first time alongside her partner Derek Thomas. They introduced their newborn daughter, Louetta Isley Thomas Willis, to the world through an Instagram post.
“You are pure magic,” Rumer captioned the photo. “You are more than we ever dreamed of.”
Rumer Willis, the eldest child of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, disclosed that Lou was delivered at home, and subsequently posted photos chronicling her birthing process.
One month following Lou’s arrival, Rumer wrote a heartfelt note to her little one, expressing that she had longed for and imagined her throughout her entire life.
The actress from The House Bunny expressed, “You’ve impacted my life deeply,” she said, continuing. “It is a blessing and an honor beyond words to be your Mother. In a May 2023 Instagram post, Rumer shared that one of her earliest words after she was born were, ‘Oh, my girl, I’ve missed you.’ She added that it feels as though she’s always known her and that she is the most stunning being she has ever encountered.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I can’t help but echo these heartfelt words: “Each instant, each squeeze and every ounce of labor pains were absolutely priceless, and if given the chance, I would gladly endure it a thousand times over, just for a single moment with you.”
In her birthday tribute for Thomas in 2023, Rumer expressed sincere appreciation, saying, “It’s such a joy to have you in both my life and our daughter’s. You make an exceptional father, and she truly considers herself fortunate to know you as ‘Papa.'”
On Father’s Day 2023, Rumer honored her father by expressing that the moment she saw the Die Hard actor, who was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia earlier this year, cradling his first grandchild would be etched in her memory forever.
Rumer expressed that Bruce’s affection and sweetness towards her was incredibly pure and lovely. She stated, “Daddy, I feel incredibly fortunate to have you, and so does Lou. Thank you for being goofy, loving, and just the coolest dad a girl could ever hope for.”
In a blog post dated August 2023, Rumer shared various moments that had recently brought her happiness. These included tying small bows in small locks of hair, cherishing “delicate toe charms,” and taking short naps while cradling tiny hands.
A few days prior to her 35th birthday, Rumer posted a nude photo on Instagram, using her caption to express thoughts about her body image.
As a dedicated follower, I’d like to express that for years, I’ve been striving to sculpt and refine my body into what I believed was desirable. However, now, as the Dancing With the Stars champion, I am thrilled to say that I have embraced a new reality – I’m a little softer, rounder, jigglier, and different after welcoming a new life.
She expressed, “It’s perfectly fine, in fact, it’s more than fine – it’s astonishing! After all, I carried a whole new life within me.” She acknowledged, “My body is still adapting, but no matter what form it takes, I am deeply grateful for everything it accomplished and continues to do.”

On her 35th birthday, Rumer posted a photo on Instagram while breastfeeding Lou, expressing that the past year brought about immense growth, numerous challenges, and fears to conquer, yet it was filled with an unforeseen amount of joy. Reflecting on an incident in October 2023, Rumer shared her experience of battling the flu alongside her daughter Lou. In her Instagram post, she expressed that it was more than just physical symptoms, it was a time filled with self-doubt. She wondered if she could handle caring for both herself and Lou while weakened by the flu. Amidst this uncertainty, they found an unexpected strength within themselves. The resilience she displayed in facing a challenge shared by many mothers made her realize aspects of herself she never knew before.
In April 2024, Rumer opened up about her evolving relationship with her body and embracing her “mama curves” on Instagram. Each day, this young child surprises her with the depth of affection and sweetness she displays. Every morning, she wakes up Rumer with a hug and a kiss, and holds her tight. Despite her limited vocabulary, she communicates with remarkable clarity.
Rumer celebrated a major milestone with Louetta’s first birthday in April 2024.
“Oh my tiny tender daughter, I CANT BELIEVE YOU ARE 1,” she wrote on Instagram. “This last year with you has been the best year of my life. Lou I have never known a love like yours. You are the most delicious, most beautiful, smartest, funniest, sweetest girl I know. I can’t believe you choose me to be your mama oh my goodness. Every day you grow and learn more and you are my greatest teacher and my deepest love.”
In the post, Rumer shared a series of snapshots of Lou with friends and family.
“You are a gift to every one you meet and your smile is almost blinding it’s so magical,” she added. “Your laugh is my favorite sound in the whole wide world. Your tiny kisses are the best thing to wake up to. I love you so deep in my bones my tiny daughter. I can’t wait to see what this next year brings!!”

In June 2024, Rumer and her mother, Demi, embarked on a memorable journey to New York City together, which Rumer described as a dream come true. She posted pictures from their trip on Instagram, mentioning that they revisited some of her childhood haunts with Lou. They explored the Natural History Museum, where Lou took her first real steps in Central Park, tasted French fries for the first time, and showed excellent sharing skills. Their nights were filled with long walks, and they had what Rumer considered the best meal of her life at Eleven Madison Park. Additionally, they attended shows at Café Carlyle, an experience that was both life-affirming and life-changing for Rumer. Overall, it was a magical trip that left her feeling grateful.
Without a doubt, she’s cherishing every unique moment with her daughter. Just as Rumer described in a July 2024 post, “Seeing my little girl strolling through the grass in my hometown surrounded by family embodies all that I’ve always hoped for.”
2024 summer marked the time when Rumer began filming the movie “Broken Trail”. She expressed her affection for her little girl, Louetta, on Instagram, saying, “My dear Lou, you’re just like a Willis! When you came to see me on set, covered in blood, you didn’t bat an eye. Instead, you stretched out your arms and gave me a warm hug followed by a big kiss.”
In August 2024, Rumer expressed her gratitude for the remarkable experience she’s had while breastfeeding Louetta, as they celebrated World Breastfeeding Week. “Breastfeeding has been a source of immense joy and a powerful bonding moment in my life with Lou,” she wrote, accompanied by images of their feeding sessions. “Even though we’re still nursing at 16 months, I can’t predict when we’ll stop, but I know we’ll make that decision together.”
In response to criticism for endorsing a sex toy company on social media, Rumer spoke out to those who criticized her. She noted that many comments she received were along the lines of “You’re a mother, you shouldn’t be displaying such intimate moments,” referring to both breastfeeding and promoting the sex toy.
