How Tammy Slaton’s Vape Addiction Impacted Skin Removal Surgery

As I delve into the captivating journey of Tammy Slaton, I can’t help but be thoroughly impressed by her resilience and determination. Her life story is a testament to the power of hope and the human spirit’s ability to transform. From her weight loss journey to her personal losses and triumphs, Tammy has experienced a rollercoaster ride that many could only imagine.

Tammy Slaton has hit a snag in her weight loss journey.

In the December 17th season finale of 1000-Lb. Sisters, after learning that she had to first reduce weight to become eligible for skin removal surgery, Tammy consulted a new surgeon who made it clear that she would have to quit vaping prior to any operation being performed.

In a visit to Dr. J. Peter Rubin, a plastic surgeon based in Pittsburgh, the 38-year-old woman was accompanied by her sisters Amy Slaton and Misty Slaton. During this meeting, Tammy openly discussed the significant impact the extra skin had on her flexibility.

In my own words, I expressed to the physician that I yearn for improved mobility without compromising my balance. During a subsequent chat, I admitted that my walking is challenging due to my skin condition, causing me to waddle like an awkward penguin; my torso often sways in one direction while my lower body moves in another.

Dr. Rubin consented to trimming the extra skin from both Tammy’s lower abdomen and chin area, however, he mentioned that addressing other areas of her body would require separate surgical procedures.

“We shouldn’t do everything at once,” he explained, “it’s a great stress on the body.”

At first, Tammy was thrilled by the news, expressing her excitement with, “I’ve been eagerly anticipating this news about my skin removal for quite some time now. Once I undergo the procedure, I’ll feel like a completely transformed individual – improved in every way. In fact, I aspire to become a model and strut down the runway.

Yet, Tammy’s doctor advised that she should increase her protein intake to aid in wound recovery, which prompted Tammy to disclose her struggle with vaping due to concerns about lung health when asked about any potential complications.

The reality TV personality openly disclosed a secret to their medical team: they vape, primarily for managing anxiety, which provides them with a sense of tranquility. However, this habit could potentially complicate the possibility of undergoing skin removal surgery.

Tammy clarified that she regularly uses an electronic cigarette on a daily basis, multiple times throughout the day, and sometimes does so during the night as a means to aid her returning to sleep.

Amy also observed that Tammy’s addiction has flourished, commenting, “I realize it will be extremely challenging for her to stop vaping as she seems to have replaced one addiction with another. She switched from a food addiction to vaping. At this stage, I believe it serves as a source of comfort for her.

It turned out that Tammy couldn’t arrange for her surgery because Dr. Rubin pointed out that using nicotine products could complicate the healing process after an operation.

He advised her, “Firstly, it’s crucial that you quit vaping entirely. Secondly, focusing on your nutrition is essential. We need to boost those numbers significantly, which will take at least two months. Consequently, I’m afraid we can’t schedule the surgery just yet; we need to sort out these matters first.

Tammy struggled with the news. In a post-appointment interview when queried about her e-cigarette usage, the celebrity simply stated, “I prefer not to discuss vaping.

She expressed, “I believe I may require some time alone as I’m feeling extremely frustrated. I’ve reached my limit and I’m leaving the room to calm down.” She added, “I couldn’t care less about the situation.
