Teddi Mellencamp is definitely keeping it real.
In a recent update, the former star of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” who is currently fighting stage 4 cancer, has been openly discussing her health condition with her children – Slate (age 12), Cruz (age 10), and Dove (age 5) – as shared by their father, Edwin Arroyave.
In the April 3rd episode of his podcast “The Eds”, he clarified his stance, stating, “I spoke honestly about the situation. It’s like saying, ‘Your mother has growths in her brain that we call tumors. The term might sound severe, but it’s not as bad as it seems, at least not how I see it. Here’s our plan for dealing with it, and this is why I am optimistic that she will pull through.’
Despite their children feeling “scared” and “anxious,” Edwin, who is also a father to 15-year-old daughter Isabella with ex Christina Mecklenburg, chose to be open about the risks associated with Teddi’s cancer, which has spread to her brain and lungs, necessitating numerous brain surgeries, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy.
Edwin went on to say that he didn’t want to make things sound overly positive, so he made sure to inform the children about the potential dangers or difficulties involved,” he added.
But in the face of Teddi’s health struggles, the 47-year-old said their kids have “been strong.”
He noted that children are remarkably adaptable. Impressed by their determination, he observed that they’ve continued excelling in academics and sports. In an effort to maintain stability for them, he encouraged them to carry on with the routines they were accustomed to.
And for Edwin, his response to support Teddi, 43, throughout her medical ordeal was “reflexive.”
Edwin shared, “Many find that challenging, but for me, it’s simply part of my routine,” referring to his actions following the fall ending of his 13-year marriage with Teddi. “Regardless of circumstances, I continue to hold deep affection for Teddi, who significantly impacted my life. Caring for others is something I naturally gravitate towards, and it’s not a choice but an inherent part of me.
Could it be possible that the pair might rebuild their relationship at some point? Edwin plans to evaluate the situation once the timing feels appropriate.
His initial emphasis was on ensuring that proper care is given. For the moment, he’s unsure about future events, but his primary concern is your wellbeing and quick recovery. In other words, he’s focused on finding ways to help you regain your normal state as soon as possible.
He added, “That other stuff will figure itself out.”
