How Teen Mom Alum Chelsea Houska Talks to Her Daughter About Safe Sex

Chelsea Houska DeBoer envisions her 15-year-old daughter, Aubree, potentially treading the same paths she did. However, Chelsea imagines this without the experience of being a teen mother.

Despite being only 18, the MTV alum had her first child with partner Adam Lind. However, having three children with husband Cole DeBoer has served as a highly effective form of natural family planning.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel relieved that Aubree seems to have experienced enough turmoil from her younger siblings to prefer peacefulness, if you will. In a shared interview with Cole, Chelsea, who is the mom of Watson (8), Layne (6), and Walker (4), humorously suggested this. Her long-term partner, echoing his wife’s sentiments after eight years of marriage, added that merely having Aubree in the living room amidst the chaos caused by the three little ones is more than enough for her. He can tell from her expression that she understands and yearns for tranquility.

To reinforce her message, the ex-star of Teen Mom has indeed discussed “the talk” multiple times with her adolescent child.

The 33-year-old mentioned, “Our relationship has always been very transparent since the start, and I believe that’s been incredibly beneficial. This transparency didn’t stem from a single discussion; it’s simply been a consistent practice of open dialogue between us.

That’s not to say she hasn’t been driven a little crazy by life with her teen.

As Aubree embarks on trips around their South Dakota home, Chelsea admitted, “It’s really scary,” she said. “I find myself saying things like, ‘Remember your seatbelt! No phone while driving! Always check carefully before moving!’ I guess I’m just a bit overly cautious.

Cole pointed out that it’s not specifically about distrusting the high schooler, but rather his general lack of trust in others. As Chelsea’s co-star on HGTV’s Down Home Fab (Tuesdays, 10 p.m.), he clarified, “I just don’t trust other people to handle things on their own, especially when they’re given control over something as significant as a vehicle.

Nevertheless, the couple, whose chance encounter at a gas station in 2014 led to an eternal bond, are certain that Aubree is following the correct path.

Chelsea enthused, pointing out that she has a strong affinity for the artistic, and suggested that as far as future professions go, she seems drawn towards photography and other creative fields, implying that those may be her chosen path.

If Aubree’s path leads towards expanding their design empire, Chelsea fully supports this endeavor, as they also manage a South Dakota Down Home by DeBoers decor store that showcases similar edgy-chic items used for home makeovers.

Chelsea remarked that Aubree might thrive in a creative environment due to her exceptional talents in that area. She also founded Aubree Says, a lifestyle brand. Regarding the younger ones, it can be challenging to determine their preferences because we often attempt to expose them to work sites, only to realize afterward that such environments are quite hectic.

Though she could see Watson create something cool out of the chaos.

“He’s so smart,” noted Chelsea. “I could see him doing construction or something for sure.”

For now, Chelsea and Cole are unwilling to pass on their unique blend of black paint and high-placed taxidermy pieces.

Although they’re open to additional projects with HGTV, such as their recent appearance on “Hometown Takover” (“I would be thrilled to contribute to something grand that benefits an entire community,” Chelsea mentioned), the original series, “Down Home Fab,” remains their deepest affection.

Chelsea expressed how deeply meaningful this series is to them as it’s currently in its third season. If there was an opportunity for them to keep going with it indefinitely, they absolutely would.

Even though juggling the series, the store, and other endeavors such as co-founding Maewear loungewear and running Belle & Rae Co., a photo business, can be challenging, it offers benefits like the rare treat of a hot midday date.

Chelsea expressed that while many couples might not be able to spend every moment together, she and her partner are more like best friends. They often face questions about balancing their professional and personal lives. To keep things interesting, they strive to create unique experiences, such as taking mini-dates during the day. She jokes that with four children, their level of alone time is almost unprecedented in a marriage.

It’s still possible that renovations may occur in the future. When it comes to having children, Chelsea mentioned that she has friends who say things like, ‘We are finished,’ and they seem certain about it. She isn’t sure if she’ll ever feel the same way.

However, it’s clear that she is aware of how enjoyable it has been for them to construct their common future, just as they did with the intricate design of their beautiful farmhouse.

She explained, “‘What a privilege it is for us to share this journey!’ was her sentiment. It includes the peaks we get to conquer together as well as the valleys. In essence, it’s quite delightful.

They, her husband of almost nine years, initially faced skepticism when they started building their own home, with people saying things like “I wouldn’t be able to build a house with my spouse because we would argue constantly.” However, they found the process incredibly enjoyable and have since been helping others with their home construction projects. They are now having an amazing time doing it!

Not only the “Teen Mom” alums, but also others from this franchise, are creating strong futures. Discover which other stars have found lasting love with their partners.

In the first season of the show 16 and Pregnant back in 2009, viewers witnessed Catelynn Lowell and her partner Tyler Baltierra face a tough decision – giving their first-born daughter, Carly, up for adoption. Fast forward to 2015, after being together for 13 years, they tied the knot in August. Since then, this beloved pair has welcomed three more daughters: Novalee, Vaeda, and Rya into their family.

Even though the void left by Carly, who resides with her foster parents Brandon and Teresa Davis, continues to be felt, the pair remains steadfast in their pursuit of a brighter tomorrow.

Catelynn shared with TopMob News in January 2025: “Their bond is whatever she desires; that’s their connection.” In essence, she expressed that the relationship between them is what their birth sibling wants. If it’s a desire for a connection with her biological siblings or with Catelynn and her family, that’s great. But if she prefers not to have such a bond, they understand. Ultimately, it should be centered around the adoptee’s wishes and comfort.

In the span of fewer than six months since they started dating, viewers witnessed Maci Bookout grappling with an unreliable Ryan Edwards on the show ’16 and Pregnant’. Despite getting engaged, this high school sweetheart duo parted ways less than a year after their son Bentley was born in 2008.

Currently, they are working towards establishing a collaborative parenting bond. In 2023, Maci shared with TopMob News that Ryan’s presence has become more regular than it ever was in the past, which she described as “a good place” for them.

In 2012, Maci met her long-term partner, Taylor McKinney from Texas. Not long after, they started expanding their team. They were blessed with daughter Jayde in May 2015 and son Maverick the following year. They tied the knot in Florida in October of the same year.

Speaking to TopMob News in 2023, she described her partner as an essential part of her life and their shared endeavors, including parenting, daily living, and their TTM Lifestyle fashion brand. “He’s simply my preferred choice,” she said. “Despite the challenging times we’ve faced together, I believe that in the end, he remains the one I select. I appreciate him. And though there are moments when I feel like I could hit him, I’d rather have disagreements or tough periods with him than never experience any rough patches with anyone else.

Regardless of having different partners now, the former MTV stars, who bonded during the production of The Challenge, still jointly care for their child, Ryder, together.

Since Cory first entered Ryder’s life, our primary focus has been on the type of father and parent Cory wanted to be, Cheyenne shared with TopMob News in March 2020. I didn’t want him to be a dad who only visited Disneyland or posted about parenting on Instagram; he needed to be fully committed. From the start, I believe he recognized my approach and valued it, which is why we co-parent so effectively.

Following the conclusion of our romance in 2018, I couldn’t shake off my feelings for him, so when given a chance, we decided to rekindle our relationship. On her 28th birthday celebration, Cheyenne announced on Instagram that we were back together. Fast forward to May 2021, we were blessed with our firstborn son, Ace, and in September 2022, we exchanged vows and officially became husband and wife.

In an interview with TopMob News in 2024, Cheyenne shared, “For the past two years, we’ve been crossing items off our bucket list. Our goal was to have a baby and that’s when Ace came along. We aspired to get married, and we had our wedding ceremony. Our dream was to buy a house, and that’s exactly what we did.

She went on to say, “I’m not interested in doing anything new or setting a goal right now. What I desire is simply to sit quietly and find contentment with our current situation. My aim is to appreciate each other more deeply, and that’s all there is to it. I want nothing more.

It appears that Cheyenne revealed she’s having another baby, on an episode of “Teen Mom: The Next Chapter,” which aired in May 2025.

Zach shared with Us Weekly that our desire for a baby was somewhat uncertain and fluctuated. Initially, he desired having a child, while she wasn’t quite ready, but eventually, we found ourselves on the same wavelength, and after some deliberation, we decided to try making it happen.

In a setting that might not initially seem romantic, such as filming the reality show “Ex on the Beach”, Cory and Taylor Selfridge, formerly from “Are You the One?”, have developed a lasting relationship which has led to the birth of their two daughters Mila and Maya, and they continue to make an impact in each other’s lives.

In 2023, he disclosed to TopMob News that they had recently purchased a house. He also acknowledged questions about their wedding plans, stating, “We’ve been discussing it. We’re missing only the ring and my proposal, which I plan to make soon. Taylor deserves this milestone, and it’s something we both eagerly anticipate. For now, we’re focusing on making preparations for it.

After marrying Mackenzie Standifer in May 2017, Ryan sought help in a rehab facility not long after the wedding. Their first son, Jagger, was born in 2018 while Ryan was still undergoing treatment.

In January 2020, they were thrilled to have their new addition, baby girl Stella, but unfortunately, Mackenzie decided to file for a divorce three years after that.

Currently, Ryan is betrothed to Amanda Conner. Together, they became parents to their first-born daughter, Presley, in February 2025.

Despite ending their tumultuous relationship permanently in 2013, the pair successfully coparented their teenage daughter Leah for a number of years thereafter.

In an interview with TopMob News back in January 2022, I shared that despite maintaining a physical distance, there’s still plenty of fun to be had. I went on to say that our bond is strong and has evolved into something deeper – we consider each other as family members. Rather than just friends or acquaintances, we prioritize our relationship more like a family unit than anything else.

It’s true that families can have disagreements from time to time. Lately, Amber has made numerous posts about Gary on social media, hinting at a strained relationship between them, which has also been highlighted on the show “Teen Mom: The Next Chapter”. Furthermore, her growing distance from Leah has become evident.

After spending several years as a couple, Amber and Matt Baier (originally from Boston), who had made an attempt at matrimony but failed during their time on “Marriage Boot Camp”, ended their engagement in the year 2017.

On Dr. Drew Pinsky’s podcast, Amber admitted, “At some point, you reach a stage where you grow tired of listening and start not feeling concerned in a relationship. I believe that’s what transpired between me and him.” She added, “I stopped caring about the relationship as much as I should have. I erected a barrier to protect myself from getting hurt again.

During the filming of “Marriage Boot Camp,” Amber developed feelings for crew member Andrew Glennon. They publicly appeared as a couple at the 2017 MTV Movie Awards and welcomed their first child, James, in May 2018.

However, the pair went their separate ways shortly following Amber’s arrest on charges of domestic battery in July 2019. After a challenging legal dispute, California-born Andrew was granted both legal and main physical guardianship of their child in 2022.

The “Teen Mom” celebrity expressed to TopMob News that they’ve put in a lot of effort to grow personally and strengthen bonds with their children. They emphasized that while they’ve been open about their history with substance abuse and mental health issues, everyone deserves an opportunity to move past their past challenges rather than being defined by them continuously.

With unwavering resolve, she expressed, “Even if your path hasn’t been smooth-sailing, but you’ve put in the effort to grow into a better, stronger, and compassionate individual today, don’t slow down. I’m right there with you. My battle for my beloved children never ends.

Following an online encounter with Amber, Dimitri Garcia first appeared on ‘Teen Mom OG’ in April 2020. As Amber disclosed during the show, “Dimitri is from Belgium, he’s 39 and that makes him 10 years older than me, but he’s quite an attractive man.” She continued, “I gradually became more open with him, and we both decided it was best to meet since we felt a connection.

In April 2021, Amber disclosed on the Teen Mom OG reunion special that she was still in a relationship with Dimitri. She stated, “We’ve known each other for about 18 months, but I haven’t seen him for a year.” Although they didn’t publicly confirm a breakup, Amber introduced her new partner, Gary Wayt, during a June 2024 episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter.

Following Amber’s introduction of Gary 2.0 on a dating app in the autumn of 2023, he made an appearance in the conversation when she presented him to her friends from the Teen Mom series during a video call.

Despite his proposal in May 2024, their engagement didn’t last long. During her brother’s wedding in North Carolina that June, Gary left following an argument with Amber, causing her to file a missing persons report.

And while Gary was soon located, the duo’s engagment wasn’t the only thing left broken.

For about three to four days, I was under the impression that my fiancé had passed away,” Amber expressed on Teen Mom: The Next Chapter. “I found myself deeply mourning and struggling to comprehend why anyone would do such a thing to me. Currently, I’m going through a very difficult experience.

She went on to say, “This man shattered me; I used to be solid and secure. Now, for the first time in years, my life isn’t going smoothly because a man proposed to me with a ring.

A few months had passed since Gary and his wife, Kristina Anderson, had their baby girl Emilee in April 2015, then they exchanged vows in a charming beach wedding ceremony.

In a 2022 Instagram post, Gary expressed, “Your soul is incredibly radiant and beautiful among those I know. I can’t imagine navigating life without you.

Farrah Abraham’s daughter Sophia’s father tragically passed away two months before she was born in December 2008, due to an accident.

In the span of more than two years, Farrah had an on-again, off-again relationship with Simon Saran, a real estate agent, marking her first significant romantic involvement since the passing of her boyfriend from high school.

Despite the bitter breakup they experienced in 2017, which was quite contentious, they made an effort to maintain some semblance of friendship. However, it wasn’t always smooth sailing.

Simon expressed to TopMob News that he holds no grudges against Farrah. He explained they come from different spheres, with Farrah preferring a more artificial lifestyle, while he seeks authenticity. However, he expressed hopes for her continued prosperity and success in all of her future endeavors.

Jenelle Evans and Andrew Lewis, who are Jace’s parents, separated soon after his birth in 2009, with Jenelle having limited interaction in her son’s upbringing thereafter.

In the 2019 episode of Teen Mom 2, Jenelle pondered, “I do feel regretful that’s Jace’s father. However, I know his character, and I don’t want him to let down my son. I don’t want him to reappear and then disappear again.

Following a one-year union with Courtland Rogers and the birth of my second child, Kaiser, to my ex-fiancé Nathan Griffin in 2014, I tied the knot with David Eason on our North Carolina property in September 2017, just eight months after we became parents to Ensley.

Following a challenging period, David was accused of a minor child abuse offense related to Jace. At this point, Jenelle described it as a smear campaign against them. Later on, Jenelle disclosed that they were no longer together.

She clarified on social media that while she wished to proceed directly to divorce, it wasn’t possible due to North Carolina laws. In this state, a legal separation of one year is required before divorce can be granted, and both parties must also demonstrate residency at two distinct addresses.

Recall the captivating individual who once questioned his then-girlfriend, Chelsea Houska, about when he could “finalize the documents regarding that error”?

Completely in the rearview.

Despite the long history, the former Teen Mom star-turned-HGTV personality maintains a relatively peaceful bond with her high school ex, Adam Lind, who is Aubree’s father. As she told Us Weekly, “There are no negative vibes, and it’s just an open relationship.” She added, “There are no bad feelings between us. We occasionally meet up, and everything is perfectly fine.

In 2014, an unexpected encounter at a gas station set the stage for a lasting relationship between Chelsea and Cole DeBoer. They officially tied the knot in October 2016. Since then, they’ve expanded their family with son Watson born in 2017, followed by daughters Layne in 2018 and Walker in 2021. Most recently, this loving couple started a shared venture – their HGTV series titled Down Home Fab.

In an interview with TopMob News, Chelsea expressed her desire for their return to television. She wanted it to be a fun, positive experience where they could genuinely express themselves. In her words, this move felt perfectly suited, as she described it as “an amazing chance to make it happen.

Initially close friends who later tied the knot as high schooler Leah Messer and Corey Simms aspired to make their relationship a lifelong commitment, but just six months following their October 2010 wedding, they decided to part ways and file for divorce. This separation has since affected their two teenage daughters, Aleeah and Aliannah, whom they share.

Corey has been married to Miranda Patterson since 2013.

In the year 2012, Leah got married to Jeremy Calvert. A year later, they were blessed with a daughter named Adalynn.

Despite parting ways in 2015, they’ve striven diligently to jointly raise their daughter, with outcomes that aren’t always smooth.

Leah shared with TopMob News that she’s found a more improved, whole version of herself through her daughters. Watching them indulge in activities they adore and having the opportunity to assist them in their lives is enchanting, she said. She cherishes every moment of motherhood, particularly being a mom to girls.

By the year 2021, when Leah made their relationship Instagram official with Jaylan Mobley, he had already won over not only Leah but also her children with his charm.

The couple announced their engagement in August 2022, but broke up that October.

The ‘Teen Mom’ celebrity admitted to TopMob News a year on that the breakup was necessary for her. She shared that she has gained valuable insights from her past relationship and feels excited about the prospect of starting a new chapter in her life.

As a lifestyle advisor, I found myself in a similar situation at the tender age of 17, starting a family with my high school sweetheart, much like Kailyn Lowry and Jo Rivera did when they welcomed their firstborn, Isaac, in 2010.

Though we parted ways a year subsequent to our initial union, we’ve now established a harmonious coparenting routine. Surprisingly, Kailyn has been hosting her discontinued podcast, “Baby Mamas No Drama“, alongside Jo’s spouse, Vee Torres, for quite some time now. In my own words, “We’ve traversed a significant distance from the days when we were just 18.” After attending Jo and Vee’s wedding in 2018, I couldn’t help but express, “I couldn’t wish for a more suitable stepmother for Isaac.

In November 2013, Kailyn’s second child, Lincoln, became part of the team. This was about a year after Kailyn, who was then a prominent figure on Teen Mom 2, got married to his father, Javi Marroquin.

In late 2016, their divorce marked a turbulent period for the ex-spouses, as they navigated separate paths and experienced ups and downs in their relationship.

In April 2025, while Kail was still engaged to Elijah Scott, Javi tied the knot with Lauren Comeau in a small ceremony on Florida’s Vero Beach. Lauren shared this on her Instagram Stories, mentioning their son Eli and daughter Maizee. She wrote that only her father, their children, and their pastor were present at the ceremony. They have a larger reception planned for the summer to include family and friends. Javi’s mother had already experienced his firsts, so there were no issues with this quick, intimate wedding. The couple wanted it to be a special moment for their boys, and a unique experience for Lauren’s father to walk her down the aisle.

Despite occasionally being in a relationship with Chris Lopez, Kailyn had sons Lux and Creed with him. However, their relationship didn’t last forever, as they ultimately decided to end things permanently.

In 2020, she shared with TopMob News that there is currently no communication between us. She expressed her hope that things will improve over time, but she doesn’t have a grand plan or any specific expectations. She doesn’t want to express negativity, and instead hopes for the best for our children, whatever the future may hold.

With her current companion Elijah, Kailyn has found a solid base for the first time. Speaking to People about him, father of her son Rio and twins Verse and Valley, she said, “He’s unlike my previous partners or the fathers of my other children. He’s a hardworking man who works with concrete, but he’s also deeply committed to his family. He’s very close to his own family as well as ours. Elijah has been a wonderful partner for me, and I believe our connection is strong and fitting.

A strong enough one that she finally said yes to one of his many proposals, in fact.

In an interview with TopMob News in September 2024, Kailyn emphasized that her longtime neighbor and future spouse had frequently proposed marriage to her, but she had never explicitly said “no.” Instead, she recalled, “I would simply respond, ‘Yes, however, not just yet.’

And while she admitted that the construction worker had certainly influenced her perspective on marriage, she wasn’t quite in a hurry to pick out a wedding gown just yet. Kailyn playfully commented, “Whether or not we get married soon depends on which day you ask me!

Despite encountering numerous highs and lows since the birth of their child Kloie in 2017, Indiana residents Jade Cline and Sean Austin hinted at a promising future for them in January 2022, as shared with their fans.

She shared with TopMob News that there were significant events that impacted our lives, along with substantial progress and positive changes in Sean’s life and his future. I am incredibly proud of him and where we are now. Eight months later, they announced their engagement and tied the knot in October 2023.

In an interview with TopMob News in 2024, Jade admitted that her relationship isn’t flawless all the time. However, she emphasized that despite its imperfections, they have a strong bond of love, which helps them navigate through any challenges.

2021 saw the secret nuptials of California residents Ashley Jones and Bar Smith, four years following the birth of their child, Holly.

But after calling off their romance several times, Ashley officially filed for divorce in 2024.

A significant amount of time passed after “16 and Pregnant” star Briana DeJesus and Devoin Austin II became parents to their daughter Nova in 2011; however, they occasionally toyed with the idea of rekindling their relationship.

Recently, Briana shared with TopMob News in 2024, “These days, I’m looking for a genuine adult companion, not the young men I’ve been accustomed to dating in the past.

Following her appearance on the only season of ‘Teen Mom 3’, Briana became a part of the cast for ‘Teen Mom 2’ during its eighth season. In July 2017, she welcomed her second daughter, Stella, with ex-boyfriend Luis Miguel.

After that point, Luis has been only minimally involved. In a Teen Mom 2 episode from December 2019, Briana told Dr. Drew, “I believe he desires a family with me, but since I’m not providing that for him, he seems to want nothing to do with me entirely.
