As a die-hard fan who has followed the Karate Kid saga since the 80s, I must say that the trailer for Karate Kid: Legends has sent my heart racing with anticipation! The prospect of Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Han teaming up once more to mentor a new student is a dream come true, and the potential connections to the ending of Cobra Kai have me eagerly counting down the days until both releases.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled about the sneak peek of “Karate Kid: Legends,” set to release in 2025. This new installment promises a fresh twist for the venerable franchise, as it seamlessly integrates the kung-fu focused remake from 2010, “The Karate Kid,” into the main narrative line.
What The Karate Kid: Legends Trailer Shows, & How It Could Connect To Cobra Kai’s Ending
In the trailer for “Karate Kid: Legends,” Mr. Han drops by at the seemingly empty Miyagi-Do dojo, where only Daniel LaRusso is present. This initial encounter seems to foreshadow several possible scenarios following the end of “Cobra Kai,” including Daniel’s decision to retire from teaching karate as he plans to make the Sekai Taikai martial arts tournament his farewell performance, as hinted in the beginning of “Cobra Kai” season 6. The absence of a large number of students at Miyagi-Do may imply that Daniel has kept his word and retired from teaching karate.
In other words, just because Cobra Kai season 6 concludes doesn’t mean the teachings of Miyagi-Do will cease to exist. With his retirement, it appears that Daniel has chosen Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) as the new sensei of Miyagi-Do, implying that Daniel and Johnny may finally establish a friendship in the final episode of Cobra Kai.
Instead of continuing to teach karate himself, Daniel might have chosen to pass the Miyagi-Do tradition to one of his advanced students, such as Tory Nichols (Peyton List), Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña), or Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan). As several Miyagi-Do students are gearing up for college in season 6 of Cobra Kai, many of Daniel’s karate pupils are preparing to embark on new chapters in their lives following the Sekai Taikai. Given that he is stepping down from teaching and a number of his students are leaving, it seems likely that Daniel would want the Miyagi-Do legacy to continue, perhaps at a different location. This could explain why he might be handing over responsibility to either Johnny or one of his most proficient disciples.
Cobra Kai Has Enormous Stakes In Season 6 Part 3
In the final stages of Cobra Kai season 6, one of the greatest uncertainties revolves around who will emerge victorious from the Sekai Taikai tournament. The competition between schools was already palpable with tension and rivalry, intensified by Terry Silver’s (Thomas Ian Griffith) manipulations. However, the global prestige of this tournament takes a dramatic turn as a violent clash among fighters ensues, culminating in the tragic death of Kwon Jae-Sung (Brandon H. Lee).
Continuing with the World Grand Championship appeared virtually impossible at that moment, but there was still a struggle among the competing schools of Miyagi-Do, Cobra Kai, and Iron Dragons to be settled. It’s plausible that the World Grand Championship might be postponed or even called off following Kwon’s demise, which could result in these three rival schools engaging in an even more heated confrontation outside of the tournament.
It appears that Daniel, Johnny, and Chozen (Yuji Okumoto) will likely focus on defeating John Kreese (Martin Kove) and Terry Silver permanently, aiming to unite the students and teachers of Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do under their guidance. The trailer for The Karate Kid: Legends seems to suggest a victorious end for Miyagi-Do, with all three schools coexisting peacefully, allowing Daniel to retire as a sensei contentedly.
Why Does Daniel Return In Karate Kid: Legends?
Although Daniel’s karate journey in Cobra Kai season 6 seems to be drawing to a close, there are still lingering questions about his relationship with his mentor, Mr. Miyagi. As Daniel uncovers the fact that Mr. Miyagi had a harder past than he knew, including being a former Sekai Taikai competitor, he grows determined to discover the whole truth behind the man who taught him karate. It’s possible that Daniel might learn the entire story before Cobra Kai season 6 ends, but the appearance of Mr. Miyagi’s old friend, Mr. Han, could potentially reveal even more.
As a die-hard martial arts enthusiast and student of the legendary Mr. Han, I must admit that our reunion in the dojo might just be a temporary detour for me, with a chance to brush up on my kung fu skills and share some of my karate expertise with Li in return. However, the truth is, I’m too deeply ingrained in martial arts and the enlightening teachings of Mr. Miyagi to ever fully step away from karate for good. The tantalizing trailer for Karate Kid: Legends might be subtly hinting at the end of an era for Daniel LaRusso on Cobra Kai, but it’s also setting the stage for a fresh start, not only for me, but for the entire Karate Kid universe.
In a span of three months starting from February 13, 2025, Cobra Kai season six – part three will stream on Netflix, and The Karate Kid: Legends is set to hit theaters on May 30th, 2025.
