How The Talk Emotionally Ended After 15 Years

As a television enthusiast with years of experience under my belt, I must say that the current state of television is quite fascinating. The variety of shows being produced nowadays caters to a wide array of tastes and preferences, making it an exciting time for viewers like myself.

The Talk has officially said “Goodbye.”

15 seasons and 2,993 episodes later, the CBS daytime program officially concluded on December 20th with a touching goodbye from hosts Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Natalie Morales, Jerry O’Connell, and Sheryl Underwood.

The episode started with a standing ovation for the team, making Jerry quip, “I was just wondering why everyone’s being so friendly today? Is something special happening?

According to The Talk’s Instagram posts, it’s fitting for them to kick off the program with a mix of tears and laughter.

In the last episode, there were several montages paying tribute to each of the current hosts, as well as reflecting on the history of The Talk by briefly including a handful of their more than 10,800 guests. Notable figures like Rob Lowe, Shemar Moore, Lisa Rinna, and 50 Cent expressed their affection for the show by sending in their messages of love.

However, the emotional aspect wasn’t the only highlight: The hosts also received their fair share of teasing as Howie Mandel presented them with personalized Talkie Awards.

In this competition, Natalie took home the title of Best Competitor, Akbar was chosen as the one most likely to disrupt a cooking segment, Amanda received the Pillow Prizefighter award, Sheryl, who has been with us since season two, won Best 1-800-Shout-Out. Lastly, Jerry, our longtime host, was honored for his outstanding performance as Topless Host, reflecting all the times he’s taken off his shirt over the past three years on the show.

At the conclusion of the episode, Natalie’s speech, which was a toast to “The Talk”, reflected the range of feelings that had been expressed by both the cast and crew.

She expressed her gratitude by saying, “Thank you to each one of you for tuning in and sharing laughs, sometimes even tears with us. We appreciate everyone’s presence – our dedicated crew who work tirelessly with us every single day, as well as our producing team, and our devoted viewers.

She went on to say, “Many of you who consistently occupy these seats, day in, day out, and time after time. To our exceptional executive producers, both current and from the past, and to every amazing person here during daytime programming, we’re going to miss you all dearly.

The final scene showed a credits roll, highlighting each team member involved in producing the series.

The Discussion—introduced as an alternative to ABC’s The Talking Circle—was initially established in 2010 by actress Sara Gilbert, who was one of the initial hosts, joining forces with Julie Chen Moonves, Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson Peete, Leah Remini, and Marissa Janet Winokur. Notable hosts who have joined later include the likes of Aisha Tyler, Eve, and Marie Osmond.

Throughout its broadcast, the series amassed 14 Daytime Emmy Awards. It was honored with the Outstanding Talk Show Entertainment award in both 2016 and 2018. CBS made the decision to terminate the show in April, acknowledging in a statement that “The Talk” had been a significant part of CBS’ top-rated daytime schedule, providing thought-provoking, relevant, and entertaining conversations that reached living rooms worldwide.
