In Monster Hunter Wilds, one of the last Endemic Life side quests could be among the most frustrating yet, as it requires you to locate a elusive Gillopod – a rare type of Pillopod that’s already tricky to find due to its minute size and exceptional camouflage skills.

As a gamer, I’ve often found myself on an exhausting quest, hopping from one corner to another, wasting countless hours in the hunt for that elusive treasure. Little did I know, the very thing I sought had been lurking right beneath my nose all along. It’s no wonder it’s considered one of the hardest to spot – unlike other inhabitants, it doesn’t dance or float about. Instead, it blends so seamlessly with its surroundings that even a seasoned Hunter like myself could overlook it for ages. It wasn’t until my fellow comrades pointed it out that I finally laid eyes on it, and let me tell you, the satisfaction of finding it was worth every moment of frustration!

Where to find a Gillopod in Monster Hunter Wilds

Pillopods can be spotted on specific surfaces, and since they blend with the walls, it’s tricky to locate them unless you know what characteristics to focus on. A Gillopod is a less common form of Pillopods. It’s larger than its smaller purple/grey counterpart and sports a distinctive blue color.

With Gillopod being so uncommon, here’s an alternative approach to help you locate one more easily. In the Ruins of Wyveria, navigate towards Area 2 and discover the concealed camp nestled among some rocks close to a ravine. Set up your camp there. Upon exiting, a massive grey wall should appear before your eyes.

Typically, you’ll find several Land-Roamers, specifically Pillopods, on the exterior wall of Camp Area 2. There’s also a possibility of encountering a Gillopod here. To maximize your chances of spotting a Gillopod, it can be beneficial to enter Camp Area 2, inspect the wall for any large, blue Gillopods that are distinct from the usual Pillopods, then exit and re-enter the area, repeating this process until one appears.

In addition to other spots within Wyveria’s Ruins, Pillopods and Gillopods might appear. However, this approach proves efficient because you can quickly enter and exit the area to check if a Gillopod is present. If not, simply repeat the process until one does. Importantly, staying in the area prevents it from resetting its native creatures, so the only factor slowing progress is how long it takes to load a region.

On PC, it’s often necessary to wait for some moments before leaving Area 2 camp, since all Endemic Life may not have appeared right away. This is due to the game taking time to load everything. After a few minutes, you can verify that everything has loaded and then proceed to exit. If you leave without waiting, you might discover that additional Gillopops are spawning in the background, and you won’t be able to halt the leaving animation.
