How to catch a creature that bears an ancient wyvern coin in Monster Hunter Wilds (A Prize Held High hidden achievement)

In the game “Monster Hunter Wilds”, there are three achievements based on endemic themes, which require you to extensively explore the world in search of these elusive, rare creatures. Among them, a particular creature carrying an old wyvern coin is exceptionally difficult to locate.

As a passionate explorer, I’ve discovered that this fascinating creature can show up anywhere across the biomes. However, my personal experience suggests that I’ve had the best success tracking it down in two specific spots. These locations are surprisingly accessible, but keep in mind that you might also find it lurking in areas such as Basin, Plains, and other regions if you’re savvy enough to spot its hiding places. Interestingly, it seems that each map has a primary location where this creature tends to spawn.

A Prize Held High hidden achievement, explained

To earn the hidden achievement named “A Prize Held High,” you should capture a peculiar crustacean known as a Curioshell Crab, which is also recognized for carrying an old wyvern coin.

How to find a Curioshell Crab in Monster Hunter Wilds (ancient wyvern coin creature)

If you come near, the crab will scurry off swiftly, so remember to dismount your Seikret and walk quietly when visiting the locations mentioned below. We’ve almost lost track of a crab before because it fled quickly while we were on birds, and due to its small stature, it can be challenging to spot at times.

Be sure to carry along your Capture Net, so you don’t mistakenly use a Flashbang and lose the chance of capturing it altogether.

All Curioshell Crab locations in MH Wilds

The initial spot to find the crab is nestled within the Forest ecosystem, specifically Area 8. You’ll discover a cave concealed behind a waterfall where you can set up camp. For an extended period, we had a camp established here, yet strangely, the crab wouldn’t appear on the side for fishing. Upon relocating the camp, the Curioshell Crab started showing up more frequently in this location, although it wasn’t always certain.

Those using the campsite asserted they easily spotted the crab during spawning, but for us, we noticed it only after dismantling our camp. However, regardless of the approach, I recommend trying out both methods in hopes that you’ll catch the crustacean more swiftly than our experience suggested.

For your secondary destination, head towards the region known as the Cliffs, specifically near Area 17 and Area 18. You’ll find a narrow, secluded section there where you might spot a small crab that shimmers with gold in the shadows. Keep in mind, this creature is tiny but highly elusive, so be ready to move quickly. Close to Area 18, there’s also a drop-off leading to a cut-off area. You can set up a Camp here to facilitate travel between these two regions more easily.

To find the crab, first, ascend the vines and leap from the Seikret to check if it’s there. If not, return to the Forest area to restart both environments. The crab is likely to appear eventually with this back-and-forth approach, but always stay vigilant. We managed to spot three crabs in just 20 minutes using this method consistently.

Capturing crabs isn’t just a fun activity; it also serves as an effective method to accumulate Wyvern Coins. You receive one coin with each catch, coins that can be exchanged for various goods from NPCs or used to boost your Guild Points.
