In Monster Hunter Wilds, there’s a special trophy/achievement that can only be earned by successfully capturing a desert dwelling creature which gleams as brightly as a falling star.
The critter we’re after is called a Sandstar. It has an appearance that blends features of a rat and a rabbit, but with a striking blue hue. What sets it apart is its incredible speed. Similar to the Giant Squid, the Sandstar follows a set spawn location and has specific conditions under which it will manifest.
How to capture the “Shooting Star”
In the Plains area, you’ll find the Sandstar usually pops up near the Oasis, specifically Area 13. It only emerges during the nighttime hours. To enhance its appearance rate, make sure your condition is set to “Plenty”. Remember, its spawning is random, so if it doesn’t show up at night, quickly travel to another region and then return.

For the best chance of capturing the swift Sandstar, it’s strongly advised that you outfit yourself with a Stunner Device, specifically a Screamer Pod. This device will temporarily disable the Sandstar, allowing you to quickly follow up by throwing a capture net for a successful catch and trophy acquisition.
The description of the Sandstar says the following:
Creatures of the desert that are active at night boast pale, glowing fur, a trait linked to their diet consisting mostly of insects. They are known for their alertness and sharp hearing, enabling them to sense potential dangers from afar. Instead of pursuing one directly, it’s wiser to try a different tactic – like using a sonic device to disrupt their sensitive ears for an easier capture.
