Once you’ve endured your punishment in the town square of Troskowitz at the outset of “Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2“, you discover about a combat instructor named Tomcat. Tomcat is situated to the west of Trosky, and he has valuable knowledge on advanced combat techniques that could be beneficial to you.
One of the techniques they refer to as the Horizontal Slice can be quite challenging to execute, especially if you’re strictly adhering to the instructions in the game.
Performing a Horizontal Slice in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
In the sequel to “Kingdom Come: Deliverance”, while training with Tomcat at the Nomads’ Camp, he will request you to practice a few techniques you are trying to master. One of these techniques is the Horizontal Slice, which is a combat sequence that involves attacking from three distinct angles. This move is designed for use against stronger opponents who may be more resistant to your regular attacks.
As I squared off against Tomcat for our combat training session, I knew I had to execute two swift Horizontal Slices to wrap up the “Combat Training: I” quest. This was essential for unlocking the Combat Training II quest and ultimately gaining the coveted Master Strike ability. For anyone who’s played the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance, you understand just how pivotal learning the Master Strike can be – it transforms every fight ahead, making each encounter a whole new experience.
It appears that executing the Horizontal Slice move as directed by the game can be quite challenging. The Horizontal Slice is said to require a specific combination of moves, according to the game’s description.
- Attack in short succession from up, right and left
Instead of recklessly executing a Horizontal Slice according to the given sequence, it may not yield consistent results. Additionally, you might find Tomcat instructing you to redo the combination move multiple times, since you’re probably making mistakes during the sparring session.
Fortunately, here’s a method to execute a Horizontal Slice more reliably, although it involves paying less heed to the game’s instructions. Here’s an effective approach for performing a Horizontal Slice:
1. Position yourself near the object you wish to slice horizontally.
2. Aim your sword or weapon horizontally, rather than vertically as the game might suggest.
3. Time your swing so that it coincides with your character’s horizontal movement.
4. Release the swing at the peak of your character’s jump or during their slide to ensure a horizontal trajectory.
5. Practice this technique to improve consistency and master the Horizontal Slice.
- To start, move your mouse or joystick up right before you attack. If you hold “up” for too long, your attack will default to the left side and the combo will be over before it can even begin.
- The moment after you attack while holding “up,” immediately move your mouse or joystick to the right and attack. You want to ensure you’re doing all of this with speed. If you let time go by in between the attacks, your momentum is thrown off, and the combo won’t work.
- Right after you attack on the right, don’t move your mouse or joystick to the left. All you have to do is immediately attack again.
- For some reason, your default attack is on the left side, so if you just press attack after going to the right side, you will attack on the left side without actually having to move your cursor over there.
- So, the Horizontal Slice combo is actually up, right, right. However, if you attack from the right first and then press attack again, you’ll still go to the left side to complete the combo.
- It’s also important to remember the speed at which you attack. Find the right rhythm between the swing of the sword every time you press the attack button.
With a bit of practice and patience, you’ll likely need several tries to master the Horizontal Slice technique, but by following my instructions, you’ll eventually achieve the desired outcome. Once you successfully execute two Horizontal Slices during your sparring sessions with Tomcat, you’ll have completed the initial phase of your quest.
To master the powerful technique called the Master Strike, you need to first overcome Tomcat in a battle, although it’s wiser to practice more and upgrade your equipment before challenging him due to his expertise. Remember that the Master Strike becomes particularly handy during mid-late game phases, so there’s no rush if you’re still new to the game.
