As a seasoned theatergoer with a soft spot for British productions and a deep appreciation for the acting prowess of John Lithgow, I am absolutely thrilled about his upcoming role in Giant at the West End! Having had the pleasure of witnessing his exceptional performances in The Crown and Dexter, I can only imagine the depth and nuance he will bring to Roald Dahl.
Actor John Lithgow, recognized for his work on The Crown, Dexter, and Shrek (where he played Lord Farquaad), will appear on the London stage in the year 2025.
In the upcoming months, the actor will once again take on the part of Roald Dahl in the play titled “Giant,” which is moving from The Royal Court Theatre to London’s West End following a highly praised performance in September.
The critically praised show, penned by Mark Rosenblatt, delves into the life of a children’s book writer as he navigates one of the most significant controversies he has ever faced.
In the summer of 1983, Roald Dahl is finalizing the publication of The Witches, but the uproar over his controversial, anti-Semitic piece persists.
During an unexpectedly intense argument one afternoon at his family home, Dahl finds himself in a predicament where he must decide between issuing a public apology or potentially damaging his name and standing.
As the transfer news unfolds, I find myself expressing my delight: “For more than six decades, the Royal Court Theatre has been nurturing ground-breaking new plays. Collaborating with writer Mark Rosenblatt and director Nick Hytner, we’ve added another remarkable piece to this rich legacy. It’s a source of great joy and pride for me to be a part of its initial journey beyond these walls.
Actor Lithgow will perform alongside Elliot Levey, Rachael Stirling, and Richard Hope. Here’s where to get your tickets for the show.
