How to move the goalkeeper in FC 25 explained

As a seasoned FC 25 player with countless hours under my belt, I can confidently say that the art of manually moving your goalkeeper is as crucial as scoring a goal itself. The game often boils down to the tiniest of margins, and any edge you can gain over an opponent can be decisive.

Occasionally, winning at FIFA 25 can hinge on the tiniest details, and mastering the art of manually controlling your goalkeeper gives you a significant advantage against every competitor.

Frequently, due to FC 25’s aggressive counter-attacks, your goalkeeper might find themselves facing an attacker in isolation, making it crucial for any tactical edge to matter significantly. Even adjusting the blocking angle can be beneficial in preventing shots from finding their mark.

This approach has lost some of its potency this year due to the significant unbalanced edge it had last year.

Regular players will likely recognize this situation, as at times, it’s an unfortunate necessity for securing a win.

In Football Manager 25, you can maneuver the goalkeeper manually in two distinct methods, and this rule applies across all game modes where the AI takes over the keeper’s control.

The two ways are dependent on the situation, but we have listed them both below:

  • Holding triangle / Y when not in possession will drag the keeper out of the net and force them to run towards the ball. It can help you close down space in a one-on-one, but you’re vulnerable to being chipped.
  • You can also move the keeper on the line by holding down on the right analogue stick (works on both Xbox and PlayStation), then move in the direction you wish your keeper to go – the downside to this is if you move your keeper too early, it can offer your opponent an open net.

Both have certain drawbacks, but they can help save many goals when used appropriately.

Faster players tend to be more efficient runners on the field, so it’s crucial to consider their speed while assembling your team roster.
