One of the initial missions for players in the Dark Brotherhood is tracking down and eliminating a Wood Elf named Baenlin, within his residence in Bruma. Though it may appear straightforward to kill such a weak and frail Wood Elf, gamers playing Oblivion Remastered should keep in mind that there are additional rewards given for meeting bonus targets set by the Dark Brotherhood.
In the game “Oblivion Remastered,” Vicente Valtieri has given players an assignment: they must make it appear as though Baenlin has met with an accidental death. To become skilled in the ways of the Dark Brotherhood, players will need to follow certain steps, but rest assured, it can be accomplished quite effortlessly if they know where to begin and how to proceed.
How to Start the Accidents Happen Quest in Oblivion Remastered
To kick off the “Accidents Happen” quest, gamers need to belong to the Dark Brotherhood and have successfully completed the previous assignment, “A Watery Grave.” Once this task is done, players can chat with Vicente Valtieri and request a new contract, which will award them “Accidents Happen” as their second job from the Dark Brotherhood.
How to Correctly Kill Baenlin in Oblivion Remastered
As an avid adventurer, I’d advise you to make your way first to the bustling town of Bruma. You’ll find Baenlin’s residence on the eastern side. However, mark your calendar for the late hours, between 8 PM and 11 PM, as it’s during these hours that Baenlin can be found in his chair, providing the ideal opportunity to stage his murder.
Given that we don’t want any unwanted attention during this clandestine operation, the smart move would be to gain entry through the locked basement at the rear of the house. Once inside the basement, I’d suggest creating a quicksave as a precaution in case Baenlin or his servant Gromm happen to spot you.
Make your way down to the basement, then climb the stairs leading to the room on the right which is the bedroom. On the eastern wall, there’s a concealed hatch that players can use to enter. Inside this small space, they can interact with the fastened animal head mountings. Interacting with these will make the trophy fall, resulting in Baenlin’s immediate demise. At this juncture, it’s advisable to sneak away, but be cautious not to reveal yourself or else Gromm will notice and you’ll lose your bonus. To slip out of Baenlin’s house unnoticed, just go through the basement door, and Gromm won’t suspect a thing.
All Rewards for Successfully Completing Accidents Happen in Oblivion Remastered

As a savvy gamer, if I successfully pull off making Baenlin’s demise appear accidental while maintaining stealth to dodge detection and saving Gromm, I’ll be handsomely rewarded. Apart from the 400 Gold (varying based on level) handed out by Vicente Valtieri and my new Slayer rank within the Dark Brotherhood, I’ll also score the exclusive Sufferthorn Dagger as a bonus! This dagger boasts two special abilities that could make my stealth assassinations even smoother.
