How to switch between first and third-person view in Avowed

Similar to numerous open-world RPGs preceding it, Avowed allows players to toggle between first and third-person perspectives. In this walkthrough, I’ll show you how to do it, as the controller setup may differ from what you’re used to when switching perspectives.

How to change to third-person view in Avowed

To switch views smoothly within the game, press the “U” key on your computer, or hold the right stick on your controller for a moment. This function allows you to toggle between first-person and third-person viewpoints. You might not immediately notice that this option is available as it’s referred to as ‘Perspective’ in the settings where keybinds and controller layout are configured.

To switch to a third-person perspective, navigate to ‘Settings,’ then select the ‘Game’ tab. In the ‘Camera’ section at the top, you’ll notice an option called ‘Third-Person View.’ Enable this by switching it to ‘On.’ Save your settings and resume playing. Now, you can admire your character from a third-person angle, taking in all their impressive traits.

Should you play in first or third-person view?

For a more immersive gaming experience, I’d suggest opting for the first-person perspective. The developers at Obsidian have chosen this as the standard setting because it places you directly into the role of the Godlike Envoy. In my opinion, it also significantly increases your accuracy when attacking enemies.

In third-person perspective, you can enjoy viewing the fashionable outfits you’ve chosen for your character, observe character movements, and gain a more detailed look at the areas you’re traversing.

I recommend spending most of your gameplay in first-person perspective, but feel free to switch to third-person whenever it suits you better. Of course, if you usually prefer third-person, you now know how to access that option.

In Avowed, if you want to switch to third-person view, here’s what you need to know. For additional game details, we’ve got tutorials on disabling Godlike abilities and burning brambles. Enjoy!
