If you participated in the live technical test for Elden Ring Nightreign several months ago, you might have had some experience with the Duchess, a class focused on agility. She’s swift and can inflict heavy damage through bleed and various other effects. However, she becomes vulnerable when struck herself. During the technical test, she was available to play alongside the Recluse, Wylder, and Guardian. It’s plausible that players of Elden Ring Nightreign are now considering making her their main character as the game officially launches worldwide.
Initially, you might find it unexpected that the Duchess is not immediately accessible upon reaching Limveld’s Roundtable Hold. Characters like Wylder and Raider are present, but not the Duchess. This is because she needs to be unlocked first, which fortunately can be done fairly swiftly once you familiarize yourself with Limveld.
Unlocking the Duchess in Elden Ring Nightreign
To play as the Duchess later on, it’s essential to practice with another character initially. Therefore, I suggest having an alternate character ready for action. This is due to the fact that you must first defeat the Tricephalos, a three-headed canine boss similar to the one seen in the network test, during your initial run against the game’s main boss.
After conquering Tricephalos for the very first time in this game, when I reached the end of my adventure, a mysterious Old Pocket Watch appeared among my earned items. Just like in classic FromSoftware style, they didn’t give me any instructions on how to use this newfound trinket. Now I can’t wait to see what secrets it holds!
To proceed, return to the main square of Roundtable Hold and converse with the Priestess who has been your guide thus far. She’ll recognize a pocket watch as hers, asking for it back. A brief scene will unfold, revealing that the mysterious Priestess is none other than the Duchess herself! After this revelation, you’ll have the opportunity to include the Duchess in future adventures.
Previously noted, the Duchess specializes in inflicting swift damage with lightweight weapons such as daggers and short swords. However, she is also adept at using spells, so magic can be an option for you too. Her fundamental abilities are geared towards maximizing combined damage, while her ultimate helps her and her team escape dangerous situations. Keep in mind that a character like a Guardian or Raider should take the lead in combat when choosing Duchess, as they make effective frontline defenders.
