FromSoftware’s games are recognized for their unique approach to storytelling, often employing subtle methods like item descriptions to help players understand the game world and its narrative. However, Elden Ring Nightreign breaks away from this pattern, opting for a more straightforward style of storytelling.
In the game Nightreign, you assume control over unique characters known as Nightfarers, each with their own narrative and distinct playstyle. These characters also come with a wealth of memories to keep in mind. Notably, Wydler is interconnected with other characters, and his specific memories unlock additional regions within Rountable Hold.
What Is The Journal?
The Journal is a substantial book located in the Rountable Hold, and it records the experiences of every Nightfarer within the game. Initially, there’s only one entry per character in it, with additional memories becoming accessible as you progress through the game. Although this may differ for each individual, entries are usually unlocked sequentially, amounting to approximately eight total recollections.
In the Roundtable Hold, you can check the journal entries for all characters at any time, no matter which character you’re currently controlling. However, always remember to finish Remembrances when they become available, as new journal entries won’t appear until you’ve completed the previous one first.
How To Unlock Memory Fragments

Memory Fragments serve as keys that unveil new journal entries and Remembrances in the game. Contrary to what it may seem, they aren’t items you have to hunt down and collect. Instead, once you fulfill the necessary conditions for them, they become accessible automatically. These fragments don’t appear in your inventory, but rather they trigger the appearance of the next journal entry or Remembrance relevant to the character you are controlling.
To put it simply, the way to unlock these characters isn’t always straightforward as each one has their unique approach, which can be quite random and not explicitly explained. However, a guaranteed method of obtaining new Memory Fragments is by successfully completing Expeditions and defeating the Nightlord at the end. As for later Remembrances, they typically require further advancement in the game.
For instance, to obtain the first Remembrance, simply reach the boss at the end of the first night, regardless if you defeat them or not. The second Remembrance might not appear until you encounter the Nightlord, and it’s unlikely that the third and final Remembrance will unlock unless you manage to overcome a Nightlord using the character in question.
In exceptional cases like Raider’s encounter with a Nightlord, obtaining the victory might not lead to the acquisition of the next Remembrance; instead, the subsequent Journal entry is what follows. Regrettably, it appears that only one Memory Fragment can be found in each match, irrespective of performance.
Wylder’s Remembrances

Just like other Nightfarers, Wylder possesses three memories for you to discover and revisit. These experiences are rather extensive, leading you through both Limveld and the Roundtable Hold, and at times even unveiling fresh locations within the latter. You can initiate them once his journal’s latest entry becomes accessible.
Experiencing Remembrances is definitely rewarding, primarily because of the captivating backstories of the characters. Interestingly, they also come with substantial gameplay advantages, which further enhances their appeal. Here’s a rundown on all three Wylders and how to achieve them.
Remembrance #1

Wylder’s initial memory takes you on a journey to Limveld, here are the tasks and suggestions for completing them effectively:
(This version aims to make the sentence more conversational and easier to read.)
Since the Duchess is part of the Remembrance, she needs to be made accessible as a playable character for it to be playable.
- Speak with Iron Menial.
- Travel to a Cave in Limveld to find a Whetstone.
- Defeat the Crystalian enemy protecting the Whetstone.
- Return to Iron Menial.
- Ask to loan the earring.
- Hold the earrings up to the light. This will be marked on the minimap, and is done in the shaft of light in the room behind Iron Menial.
- Give the repaired earring to the Duchess.
In the course of your adventure in Limveld, you’ll find yourself entering a place called the Realm of Remembrance during a specific event. Your goal within Limveld requires you to stay within this realm. Fortunately, it will be clearly indicated on your map with a red marker for easy navigation. You’ll discover it at the conclusion of any cave network. Be aware that a formidable enemy known as Crystalian guards this place, and they must be vanquished before you can obtain the Whetstone. A useful tip: To make the encounter less challenging, try to break their stance before engaging in combat.
Apart from these, the subsequent tasks are straightforward. Just keep an eye on the mini-map and follow the markers, and you will acquire a distinctive artifact known as the Slate Whetstone. With this, Wylder will gain a fresh follow-up attack to his Claw Shot when he equips a Greatsword.
As a gamer, I’ve found it’s most effective to tackle the in-game objectives solo since only one Remembrance can be active at a time during a match. Even if I end up getting defeated after completing an objective, I’m free to give it another go.
Remembrance #2

In Wylder’s second adventure, it is essential for you to delve deeply into the Roundtable Hold. However, there’s no compulsion for you to visit Limveld at present. Below you will find the objectives and their locations:
1. Objective 1: The first objective can be found in the northwestern section of the Roundtable Hold.
2. Objective 2: Look for this objective near the central courtyard within the Roundtable Hold.
3. Objective 3: To locate the third objective, search the eastern wing of the Roundtable Hold.
4. Objective 4: This objective is hidden in the southern section of the Roundtable Hold.
5. Objective 5: The final objective can be found at the very heart of the Roundtable Hold.
- Find the changes in Roundtable Hold. This has you going to the room with the Visual Codex and reading letters from the various piles around the room, three in total.
- After interacting with the last one, a door opens somewhere, and you must talk to Iron Menial. This is the door beneath the stairs that leads to the grassy area near the entrance of Roundtable Hold.
- Enter the newly-opened Crypt and speak with the Iron Menial.
- Examine the tombs in the crypt, then speak to Duchess on the shore.
This will complete this Remembrance, and unlock a new Relic Rite for Wylder.
Remembrance #3

In Wylder’s last memory, you find yourself back in Limveld, but with a unique Earth Shift happening. Your task is to overcome another adversary who protects a valuable artifact, though this time the challenges are intricate. Here are the objectives and how to complete them:
- Pick up the key from the table.
- Head down the stairs to the crypt and open the chest with the key.
- Speak to the Recluse. You have an option of how to respond here, though both will progress the Remembrance.
- Talk to the Iron Menial about the Silver Tear.
- Find a Silver Tear in Limveld. This will be in the Eternal City Shifting Earth event, which spawns while in the Realm of Remembrance.
The initial stages are quite straightforward, as they’re clearly indicated on the map. However, locating the Silver Tear proves to be quite challenging. Although it’s marked on the map, a Spirit Troll safeguards it in the remote corner of the Eternal City, near where the circle quickly contracts when it starts closing.
Given these circumstances, it’s advisable to confront Rome on the second day’s morning, as you’ll have more time under your belt and a slight level advantage from the previous day. But be cautious when making your way to the Silver Tear location, as a stealthy Black Knife Assassin is known to lurk nearby, ready to join any fight they witness.
When fighting against the troll, make regular use of Wylder’s Ultimate Art for maximum effect. This move deals massive stagger damage, ideal for swiftly defeating the enemy. After their defeat, collect the Silver Tear and continue your journey. From this point forward, you can afford to lose if you so choose.
Even with the Black Knife Assassin joining the fight, it is not necessary to vanquish them to obtain the Silver Tear; instead, focus on defeating the troll.
As a gamer, I’ll head back to the Iron Menial, this time with the Silver Tear in hand, wrapping up my Remembrance journey. This artifact, the Silver Tear, not only serves as a memento of the past battles but also unlocks the Silver Tear Relic for Wylder, adorning him with his unique Remembrance attire. After vanquishing the final boss while playing as Wylder, having completed all three Remembrances, I’ll be rewarded with an exclusive extended ending tailored just for him.
