What to expect from Call of Duty: Next 2024
Call of Duty, the biggest first-person shooter series globally, has just completed a year marking its 20th anniversary. As we move forward with the franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set for release on October 25. This game marks a unique milestone as it will be available for immediate play on Xbox Game Pass subscriptions at launch, following a complex merger between publisher Activision and Xbox that encountered stiff opposition from international regulatory bodies.
As a researcher, I’m privileged to be part of the team where Treyarch Studios takes the lead in the main development of Black Ops 6. Meanwhile, Raven Software plays a pivotal role in shaping the narrative of this game. Moreover, several studios under the Activision umbrella, including Beenox, High Moon, Infinity Ward, and Sledgehammer Games, are lending their support to the ongoing development of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone.
Although trailers for Zombies and Multiplayer modes have been unveiled, the game has faced numerous leaks, with one particularly significant leak occurring after an update to prepare Call of Duty HQ for the open beta. This allowed players with jailbroken PS4s to access Black Ops 6’s multiplayer content.
Multiplayer
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 significantly advances the series’ movement mechanics, thanks to a comprehensive overhaul that includes thousands of fresh animations. Dubbed Omnimovement, this new system introduces substantial modifications to how players navigate and engage with one another within the game environment.
Moving from lying flat to performing action-hero jumps in all directions, even using fellow players as human shields, there’s lots of exciting multiplayer news for Call of Duty: Next. Players can anticipate a comprehensive exploration of Omnimovement, sneak peeks at the new maps set for open beta release, and insights into the new modes destined for Black Ops 6.
Zombies
Treyarch recently unveiled a deep dive in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s zombies map, Terminus. A recent trailer showed us our first look at Liberty Falls, the map set in an idyllic West Virginia town overrun by the undead. During Call of Duty: Next 2024 we’ll see hands-on gameplay on Liberty Falls by content creators on the showcase floor along with deep dives from developers.
Call of Duty: Warzone
Call of Duty social media platforms recently hinted at the unveiling of a fresh map called Area 99 for Call of Duty: Warzone, created by Treyarch Studios. Currently, information about Area 99 is limited, with few leaks surfacing. Some well-known leak sources have suggested it’s a resurgence map similar to Fortune’s Keep and Rebirth Island, and that a larger battle royale map won’t replace Urzikstan until Verdansk returns in 2025. We won’t have long to discover if these leakers are accurate as Area 99 will be unveiled at COD Next.
We can also expect to see the implementation of Omnimovement into Warzone with live gameplay.
Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile
For five years now, we’ve been playing Call of Duty: Mobile, and it’s time to commemorate this significant milestone! During our upcoming showcase, some well-known creators from the mobile COD community will make an appearance. Additionally, we’re excited to reveal new features for Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile that will be unveiled at the event itself.
C.O.D.E. Bowl V
After the Call of Duty: Next exhibition, fans of Call of Duty (COD) can anticipate tuning into the live stream of the C.O.D.E. Bowl V, sponsored by USAA. The fifth anniversary celebration of the Call of Duty Endowment Bowl will showcase 10 esports teams hailing from military branches across the USA, UK, and Canada. These teams will engage in fierce competition, battling it out on Urzikstan in Call of Duty: Warzone for top honors. By watching C.O.D.E. Bowl V, you can collect and unlock various rewards within the game.

The future of Call of Duty

However, the departure of Toys for Bob, who became independent following the merger with Xbox, leaves other supporting studios with additional work.
It’s uncertain whether more Xbox studios will become part of the Call of Duty phenomenon or if the series will maintain its yearly release pattern independently. The future of Call of Duty is promising but also contains possibilities that are yet unclear. The upcoming Call of Duty: Next offers a glimpse into the near future, but it only hints at what may lie ahead in full detail.
