How to watch Demon Slayer in order

As a dedicated cinephile with a soft spot for anime and manga adaptations, I’ve been following Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba since its inception. I remember the buzz around the manga when it first debuted in 2016, and I was immediately captivated by Koyoharu Gotouge’s stunning artwork and intriguing storyline.

With the end of Demon Slayer season 4 comes a new era for the show!

The Demon Slayer series will conclude not with a fifth season, but rather through a film trilogy that brings the Infinity Castle arc to life on the big screen.

We haven’t specified when the trilogy will be released in cinemas yet, but rest assured, fans will get the opportunity to watch it on the big screen as a fitting conclusion to the franchise.

Since its launch as a manga in 2016, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba has gained massive popularity, boasting an impressive circulation of over 150 million copies – ranking it among the top 9 best-selling manga series globally.

After the first season of the anime was released in 2019, there were additional TV seasons and films based on Koyoharu Gotouge’s original manga, which concluded in 2020 after a total of 23 volumes.

Based on my own experience as a longtime anime fan, I have to admit that the Demon Slayer series can be a bit confusing due to its intricate storyline and frequent episode overlaps. While it’s true that you don’t necessarily have to watch every single installment in order to follow the general plot, some episodes do repeat material or combine multiple original episodes into longer feature-length presentations.

The story chronicles Tanjiro Kamado’s transformation into a demon slayer, as he avenges his family’s death and attempts to save his sister from becoming a demon after they were both tragically attacked.

The fourth season has come to a close, leaving fans exhilarated by the gripping portrayal of the Hashira Training Arc in live action.

In what sequence do the various seasons and the movie unfold, and where can UK viewers access them altogether?

Read on for everything you need to know about how to watch the Demon Slayer franchise in order.

How to watch the Demon Slayer franchise in order

The manga series “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” has produced four anime seasons and two side films up to now, and there are plans for an additional three films in the future.

The best order to watch the seasons in is as follows:

  • Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba season 1
  • Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train OR Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba season 2 – Mugen Train Arc
  • Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba season 2 – Entertainment District Arc
  • Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village OR Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba season 3 – Swordsmith Village Arc
  • Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba season 4 – Hashira Training Arc
  • Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Infinity Castle film trilogy (upcoming)

However, that’s not the be all and end all.

For those new to the franchise, it’s recommended that they begin with the first season of the anime. Afterward, they’ll encounter various choices.

In the second part of the show’s second season, there were two distinct storylines. The initial one is referred to as the Mugen Train Storyline, while the subsequent one is called the Entertainment District Plot.

The initial movie installment in the series bears the title Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train. This film follows the same narrative as the first half of the second season of the TV show that came afterward. However, the TV show introduces new content for viewers seeking fresh perspectives. Despite this, the movie can be skipped without significantly impacting the overall storyline.

Kimetsu no Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village,” covers the last two episodes from season 2 and the initial episode of season 3. On the other hand, season 3 fully adapts the manga’s storyline set in the Swordsmith Village.

In the fourth installment, the Hashira Training storyline was chosen for adaptation, which is more concise than the Swordsmith Village saga. Surprisingly, rather than a fifth season, fans will receive the Infinity Castle arc in the form of a film trilogy instead.
