As a die-hard Dexter fan who has been patiently waiting for more of the dark and twisted drama since the release of Dexter: New Blood, I couldn’t be more excited about the upcoming prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin! The teaser alone has me on the edge of my seat, and with a star-studded cast that includes Patrick Gibson as young Dexter, Christian Slater as his father Harry, and Sarah Michelle Gellar as his boss Tanya Martin, I’m confident that this series will not disappoint.
Fans of Dexter can anticipate a fresh, blood-filled chapter with the upcoming prequel series titled “Dexter: Original Sin.
Prior to the launch of the series, viewers have already been given a sneak peek at what’s in store for the character Dexter, portrayed by Patrick Gibson from Shadow and Bone.
Clearly, fans of Dexter have been eagerly anticipating fresh installments of this popular drama ever since the airing of the latest limited series revival, Dexter: New Blood, in 2021.
Referring to the upcoming film about Original Sin, Gibson stated to The Hollywood Reporter: “I’m not certain if I’m entirely ready for this as I’m unsure of what lies ahead, but I know that once it’s released, it will no longer be my concern.
“I’m hoping I can bring some of myself to this character while also honoring what he did.”
In a nod to its original release year, 1991, this show chronicles Dexter’s transformation from a student into a ruthless serial killer, and Michael C. Hall, our original cast member, lends his voice once more to the distinctive inner thoughts that punctuate the series.
Moreover, the stellar cast additions don’t stop there! Christian Slater (known for his role in Mr Robot) will portray Dexter’s father, Harry. Christina Milian (from Meet Me Next Christmas) joins as Maria LaGuerta, while Patrick Dempsey (best recognized from Grey’s Anatomy) takes on the role of Captain Aaron Spencer. Lastly, Sarah Michelle Gellar, famously known for her work in Buffy, is all set to play Dexter’s boss, Tanya Martin.

On Friday, the 13th of December, the premiere of Dexter: Original Sin will air on Paramount Plus, starting with its inaugural episode.
Each week, new episodes will air on Fridays, streaming a total of 10 episodes.

What is Dexter: Original Sin about?
As a cinephile delving into the intriguing world of television, I’m eagerly anticipating the upcoming prequel series that promises to unfold the enigmatic backstory of the character we all know as Dexter. In contrast to the original series where Dexter juggled his dual roles as a forensic technician and a secret serial killer, this new installment transports us back to the formative years of our anti-hero, shedding light on the events that led him down the twisted path he would eventually walk.
As per the summary, “Dexter: Original Sin”, set in 1991 Miami, tells the story of Dexter (Gibson) who evolves from a student into a vengeful serial killer. When his bloodthirsty instincts become too strong to resist, Dexter embarks on a journey to control and harness his inner darkness.
Under the tutelage of his father, Harry Slater, Dexter embarks on a unique system – a Code – to locate and eliminate individuals who warrant removal from society without attracting the attention of law enforcement. As a young man starting a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department, this proves to be quite a test for Dexter.
