Which games will be shown in the PlayStation State of Play?

We’re going to begin with a strong possibility: A remastered version of Horizon Zero Dawn. The action-adventure released in 2017, starring the current Sony fan favorite Aloy, was given a rating by the ESRB (via Eurogamer) in September, ending months of whispers and conjecture that the game is being updated for next-gen consoles.

In the same vein, I’ve been following the news closely, and just as VGC reported back in October 2022, it appears that Sony has been working on a remaster of the game they removed from their PS Plus line-up in May this year. With the current state of the PlayStation 5, it seems they might use this opportunity to entice players towards a potential PS5 Pro upgrade. Honestly, I think it’s long overdue.

The crazy thing about this is that Lego Horizon Adventures is scheduled for Q4 2024, meaning there’s a chance we get two versions of the same game within the same period.

It’s been mentioned through Insider Gaming that there are whispers about a potential Days Gone remaster. While it appears uncertain, considering the number of remasters Sony has released during this generation, anything is possible.

Another plausible option could be “Death Stranding 2: On the Shore” is another title on the horizon, with Hideo Kojima expected to unveil this eagerly awaited follow-up at the Tokyo Game Show.

2025 is when we’re expecting to launch our game, so it’s possible that we’ll soon reveal its specific release date. Alternatively, there might also be news about introducing a fresh character in the game.

Kojima often hangs out with famous people and posts about these encounters on social media; Ella Purnell from Fallout is among the latest. We’re thrilled if he continues sharing such interactions.

Over the past few years, Resident Evil has been thriving with regular releases, starting from 2019 and continuing through 2023. However, there was no new installment in 2024, leading to speculation that we might expect Resident Evil 9 in 2025.

It’s plausible that Sony and Capcom might make an announcement or release a teaser about their collaboration, given their close ties. As for certainty, we can say that the director of Resident Evil: Biohazard, Kōshi Nakanishi, is indeed working on the next project within the Resident Evil universe, which was officially confirmed during Capcom Next in July 2024.

Given that Astro Bot has recently been released, it’s possible we might see an update or downloadable content (DLC) in the future. Perhaps there will be a connection to PSVR 2, as Astro Bot is originally from that platform.

Regarding PSVR 2, it’s possible that another Resident Evil title or additional trailers for Alien: Rogue Incursion and Arizona Sunshine Remake could be unveiled. However, since Sony has been scaling back their support for PSVR 2, we shouldn’t anticipate significant new releases from the platform.

As a movie critic peering into the realm of video games, I can confidently exclude any significant releases from powerhouse studios like Naughty Dog, Sony Santa Monica, and Insomniac Games. These creative titans are likely saving their masterpieces for a grand PlayStation Showcase, where they’ll shine in all their glory. However, it wouldn’t surprise me if we catch glimpses of their timeless classics running smoothly on the PS5 Pro, offering a tantalizing taste of nostalgia.

Similarly, while a trailer for Sonic X Shadow Generation might be expected, given that Sonic Central is scheduled for several hours prior (at 5 pm BST), this suggests that the trailer may not appear as expected.

In conclusion, there’s a possibility that we might see a return of Metal Gear in the future. This could be marked by the launch of Snake Eater or the announcement of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Volume 2.

Regardless of the situation, there’s not much time left before we get the answer. Don’t forget to catch the live State of Play broadcast at 11pm British Summer Time!
