How to watch The Simpsons

As someone who grew up with The Simpsons as a constant presence in my childhood home, I must admit that the news of its departure from Channel 4 has left me feeling a tad nostalgic and slightly apprehensive. Over two decades have passed since I first laughed at Bart’s antics, marveled at Lisa’s wisdom, and sighed at Homer’s blunders. The show was more than just a cartoon for me; it was a window into another world that mirrored my own in its absurdity and humanity.

After two decades on air, The Simpsons is leaving Channel 4.

Since 1989, an entertaining animated series about a quirky family consisting of Homer, Marge, Lisa, Bart, and Maggie, has been continuously airing.

Starting from 2004, British audiences could catch Channel 4’s evening broadcast at 6:30 PM to view the series. However, this routine is set to be disrupted since the program is shifting to a different network.

The news was announced this week on the show’s 35th anniversary.

What is The Simpsons about?

The most beloved American family, known for their quirks, consists of Marge – a housewife with unique blue hair, her husband Homer, who’s held jobs ranging from beer factory work to the risky position at Mr. Burns’ nuclear power plant, and their children Lisa, Bart, and Maggie.

Who voices the characters in The Simpsons?

In this production, you’ll find Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Dan Castellaneta, Yeardley Smith, Hank Azaria, and Harry Shearer as the principal actors.

In this show, Kavner primarily plays Marge, Patty, and Selma, while Cartright lends her voice to Bart Simpson, surprising many as Bart is voiced by a female actor. She also voices other characters such as Ralph Wiggum and the school bully, Nelson Muntz.

In simpler terms, Castenella plays the roles of Homer Simpson, Grampa Simpson, Krusty the Clown, and other male characters from The Simpsons, while Smith voices Lisa Simpson.

In simple terms, Azaria and Shearer are the primary voice actors for most of the characters living in Springfield, such as Apu Nahasapeemapetilon and Mr. Burns.

Matt Groening initially developed The Simpsons, and he collaborated with Sam Simon as well as a founding group of writers which included John Swartzwelder, Jon Vitti, George Meyer, Jeff Martin, Al Jean, Mike Reiss, Jay Kogen, and Wallace Wolodarsky.

Throughout the series’ 30-year span, various authors have come and gone from the team, yet among those who joined after the show started, Swartzwelder has authored the highest number of episodes.

What has The Simpsons predicted?

The TV series, “The Simpsons,” has frequently seemed prophetic, with one striking example being their prediction of Donald Trump becoming the U.S. president. However, it’s important to note that the creators of the show don’t claim to possess a crystal ball; rather, the long-running nature of the series and its numerous future predictions means some of them are bound to align with reality by chance.

But still, the faulty voting machine’s attempt to stop Homer from voting from Barak Obama is very spooky when one considers that one election cycle later, a voting booth in Pennsylvania actually did this in 2012.

Why are The Simpsons yellow?

The Simpsons have a yellow appearance for visibility on television, since none of the other shows share their distinctive, vibrant yellow skin color.

Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons, shared with BBC that an animator proposed the concept to him and sketched it roughly. Seeing this, he exclaimed, “This is it!” because when quickly switching channels using a remote control, a flash of yellow will instantly let viewers know they’re watching The Simpsons.

The Simpsons is available to stream on Disney Plus. Sign up to Disney Plus from £4.99 a month.
