How Today’s Craig Melvin Is Honoring Late Brother Lawrence

As a dedicated follower of heartwarming stories and a passionate advocate for cancer awareness, I am deeply moved by Craig Melvin‘s relentless commitment to his late brother Lawrence Meadows’ legacy. His journey from a concerned family member to a beacon of hope in the fight against colorectal cancer is truly inspiring.

Craig Melvin is carrying on his brother’s legacy.

Today’s show host, together with his spouse Lindsay Czarniak, is organizing the third yearly Bottoms Up Invitational – a two-day charity event that supports the Colorectal Cancer Alliance. This event takes place on September 15 and 16, in memory of his deceased brother, Lawrence Meadows.

Moved by his older brother’s battle with cancer, a 45-year-old individual took an active interest in the Colorectal Cancer Alliance’s efforts to increase public knowledge and advance research for colorectal cancer – a disease that ranks fourth in cancer-related fatalities within the U.S., as reported by the CDC.

In a special interview with TopMob News, he shared that during his time, significant efforts were made to increase screenings, gather funds for research, and promote open conversations about family health histories. Once it was clear that he wasn’t going to recover, he expressed the desire for me to carry on my work within our alliance, making this mission one of my life’s greatest purposes.

Following Lawrence’s passing in 2020, after his long battle with colorectal cancer diagnosed at the age of 39, his younger brother honored their commitment by carrying on with what they had begun together.

Craig further explained, “We’re aiming to make this less mysterious and more openly discussed, as it isn’t typically considered an appealing or glamorous disease.

However, though his brother served as the catalyst for the occasion, it has grown to signify far greater significance to a wider circle of people.

Craig told TopMob that what began as a simple tribute to him transformed into an exceptional two-day affair. We celebrate survivors, we acknowledge caregivers, we discuss groundbreaking research, and there’s even time for a friendly round of golf and some musical performances.

Regarding the actual event happening in Connecticut, the NBC News anchor hinted that we can anticipate another fantastic Sunday concert along with a rather ordinary round of golf the next day.

To get things started at the event, there’ll be an opening ceremony followed by a musical performance showcasing artists including Chris Barron from Spin Doctors, members of Hootie & The Blowfish, Ray Boudreaux and Javier Colon who are both contestants on The Voice, and many other talented musicians.

On the day after, various well-known personalities such as NFL player Sterling Sharpe, ESPN sports commentator Michael Eaves, and television hosts Carson Daly and Willie Geist from ‘Today’, along with a few more, will proceed towards the golf course for the invitational tournament.

In the previous year, the fundraising event managed to gather $1.2 million for the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, which was a slight increase from the $1.1 million raised the year before. Despite Craig initially not intending for the invitational to be an annual event, he is now eagerly preparing for another round of impactful efforts aimed at making a difference and saving lives.

He stated, “That’s the second highest single-day donation for colorectal cancer research annually in the nation. Given this, I believe my brother would take great pride in it.
