As a seasoned analyst with a penchant for all things tech and gaming, I must say that HP’s announcements at Gamescom 2024 are nothing short of impressive. The Omen 35L gaming desktop caters to the needs of PC gamers, offering customization options that are hard to come by in this market. The future-proof design, combined with the flexibility to choose between AMD or Intel CPUs and NVIDIA or AMD GPUs, makes it a dream machine for many enthusiasts like myself.
At Gamescom 2024, HP introduced a new gaming desktop, the HP Omen 35L, along with several accompanying accessories. The HP Omen 35L is the star of the show, offering choices between potent CPUs from Intel or AMD and top-tier GPUs from NVIDIA or AMD. Additionally, HP revealed its HyperX QuadCast 2 and QuadCast 2 S microphones and its HyperX Alloy Rise 75 Wireless keyboard.
You can purchase the Omen 35L right now, with a base price of $1,299.99 when equipped with an AMD Ryzen processor. For those preferring Intel-based models, the starting price is slightly higher at $1,369.99.
As a seasoned podcaster who has been through various microphones and equipment, I can confidently say that the QuadCast 2, launched this week for $149.99, has caught my attention. However, I must wait until November to get my hands on the QuadCast 2 S, priced at $199.99. The slight delay is disappointing, but the anticipation of improved sound quality makes it a worthwhile wait.
Omen 35L
HP designed the Omen 35L gaming PC keeping in mind the preferences and flexibility sought by PC gamers. This customizable system offers a choice between powerful processors such as an AMD Ryzen 7 8700G or an Intel Core i7-14700F. For graphics, you have the freedom to pick between teams red and green: either the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 or the AMD Radon RX 7600X GPU.
The HP Omen 35L appears to offer long-term compatibility due to its utilization of industry-standard parts for potential future enhancements, as stated by HP. While the ability to update a gaming desktop isn’t exclusive, it’s certainly an appealing feature.
The ventilation in the Omen 35L is powered by two pairs of 140mm ARGB fans, along with a 240mm liquid cooler, which effectively maintains the system’s temperature levels.
HyperX
In today’s HP announcements, various HyperX accessories have been unveiled, including two USB microphones: the QuadCast 2 and the QuadCast 2 S. The standard QuadCast 2 offers 24-bit/96kHz audio quality, while the upgraded QuadCast 2 S boasts professional-grade 32-bit/192kHz audio quality, making it a suitable choice for streamers who monetize their gaming or those with demanding setups.
The QuadCast 2 sports red illumination. On the other hand, the QuadCast 2 S stands out with over 100 adjustable aRGB LEDs, which you can personalize using the NGENUITY software, making it more vibrant and colorful.
In addition to unveiling the new microphones, HP introduced the HyperX Alloy Rise 75 Wireless keyboard, a versatile accessory that features a hot-swappable design. This means that the top plates, badges, and switches can be easily replaced without powering off the keyboard. Interestingly, these interchangeable parts work on both the wired and wireless versions of the HyperX Ally Rise 75. Our colleagues at Tom’s Hardware have already reviewed the wired version of this keyboard, which was released earlier this year.
The HyperX Alloy Rise 75 Wireless keyboard features an ambient light sensor and adjustable backlighting, with a claimed battery life of up to 80 hours when the backlight is activated. If you choose to turn off the backlight, HP estimates that the keyboard can last up to 1,500 hours.
Google Play Games
At Gamescom, HP mainly highlighted their hardware advancements, but they also revealed that Google Play Games would become accessible on personal computers via the Omen Gaming Hub. This integration aims to simplify the process of playing both mobile and PC games through the hub, as thousands of Android games can already be enjoyed on your PC through Google Play Games (which has been available for a few years now). Keep in mind that while Google Play Games is currently in beta, you can download it at present.
