Hugh Jackman’s BFF Addresses Deborra-Lee Furness’ “Betrayal” Comment

Hugh Jackman’s friend is giving insight into his split from Deborra-Lee Furness. 

A short while after Furness filed for divorce, following their split in September 2023, and with Jackman expressing that the last months of their relationship were marked by a sense of “betrayal,” Jackman’s childhood friend, Gus Worland, offered his viewpoint on the challenges they faced.

Worland stated on Australia’s Ben Fordham Live radio show on May 29th, it’s not just about that particular statement, but rather the fact that the past couple of years have been quite challenging. No one wishes hardships upon anyone, and given their public persona and fame, they’ve had to endure these difficulties in full view.

Furthermore, Worland acknowledged his connections to both parties, but underscored that he’s been firm in allowing them to “take care of their responsibilities.

In a recent interaction, the 57-year-old, who has known Hugh Jackman since their kindergarten years, mentioned that they had recently met up in New York. (Note: The friend here is visiting Jackman, not just passing by him)

Worland mentioned that he’s progressing smoothly. He seems to be moving forward with his life, and I wish the same for Deb.

In response, Furness acknowledged that she’s finding it challenging after choosing to legally part ways with Jackman, whom she was married to for 27 years. However, she remains resilient and continues on her path.

Furness expressed his empathy and concern for everyone who has experienced the painful ordeal of betrayal, stating this in a statement to The Daily Mail on May 27. He believes that although this wound runs deep, there’s a higher power at work – be it God or the universe – that is constantly working to help us.

Furness and Jackman, parents to Oscar (age 24) and Ava (age 19), revealed their split approximately two years back, explaining that they were embarking on an evolving path towards personal development and independent progression.

After his divorce in 2024, Jackman began a relationship with longtime friend Sutton Foster, while Furness is currently working on personal growth independently.

Last year, the 69-year-old shared with People that they are robust and adaptable. They emphasized that we are all in a state of continuous change.

The Sydney-born actors first met in 1995 on the set of the Australian TV series Correlli.

On one particular evening following some beverages, Hugh confessed to his co-star that he had developed feelings for her – a sentiment shared by the entire team as well.

To his pleasant surprise, Deborra returned the sentiment. Somehow, we are not surprised.

The pair were all smiles in 1997, about a year after they tied the knot.

The two embraced each other during a sweet moment.

Not long after their 10th wedding anniversary, the Australian stars were still hot for each other.
