Last year when Deadpool & Wolverine graced the big screen, I pondered what Hugh Jackman would take on next. As anticipated, he returned to his theater background for From New York, With Love, which is slated to continue until October 2025. However, on the film front, his upcoming project involves a murder mystery solved by some sheep, and I find myself preoccupied with this unusual concept.
For the first time at CinemaCon 2025, Amazon made an appearance, sparking anticipation for potential Bond news throughout TopMob’s live blog of the event. However, the most we received was the announcement that some work has “commenced” in London. Nonetheless, this wasn’t particularly significant since the film I can’t stop thinking about is one featuring Hugh Jackman and his sheep solving a murder mystery instead.
Amazon unveiled “Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Story” – a film that tells an unusual tale of sheep, grief-stricken after their shepherd passes away, attempting to solve the mystery of who committed the crime. The general reaction in the audience was a puzzled “what’s this?”.
Initially, we obtained studio footage, and I must admit, the film appears charming. Despite my initial thoughts that “Three Bags Full” resembles a Hallmark movie title rather than a major motion picture, Amazon is determined to bring it to the big screen. And after glimpsing a sneak peek, it doesn’t seem terribly sheepish. I couldn’t resist making a pun there.
After wrapping up his roles in Deadpool and Wolverine, Hugh Jackman is set to star in a new film directed by Kyle Balda, known for his work on Despicable Me films. Craig Mazin, who has worked on Chernobyl and The Last of Us, penned the script, and some big-name stars are attached, with ‘big’ truly being an understatement.

While raw talent may not guarantee a successful film, it’s the tone that will significantly influence the reception of “Three Bags Full”. This movie is humorous and captivating, but it’s adapted from Leonie Swan’s book of the same name, available for purchase on Amazon. Critics have praised the book as a clever twist and an offbeat story within the detective genre – a yarn that plays with wool-related phrases.
In 2026, Hugh Jackman will breathe life into the novel “Three Bags Full” on the silver screen, yet the book was published in 2008 and is available for readers to purchase today. I’m eagerly anticipating the discussion about how the book and its film adaptation compare! Check out the deal now!
The film titled “Three Bags Full” is not set to hit cinemas until 2026, however, it signifies a fresh approach by Amazon aimed at revitalizing the movie theater industry. In the upcoming years, Amazon plans to release around 15 movies for exclusive theatrical showings, ensuring that viewers can still experience films in their full cinematic glory on the big screen. Fortunately for Jackman, he won’t have to fret about needing to use the restroom while wearing the Wolverine suit for this production!
Last year saw a significant triumph for the studio with the release of “Red One“, even if the box office returns weren’t as impressive. It was quite surprising to notice the studio making an appearance at CinemaCon this year, and it’s delightful to observe Amazon venturing into original productions, too (with the added benefit of possibly boosting book sales in the process).
Unexpectedly, Hugh Jackman’s future film projects, including “Three Bags Full,” “Apostle Paul,” “The Death of Robin Hood,” and “Song Sung Blue” (currently in post-production), were not on my list of predictions. However, the bizarre storylines have such potential that they managed to stand out among the highlights at this year’s CinemaCon.
And in the meantime, there’s always that 8-hour video of Jackman breathing if you need a quick fix.
