As a seasoned gamer with years of Hunt: Showdown under my belt, I must say that this latest update has me more excited than ever! The introduction of Mammoth’s Gulch and the new Hellborn target promises a fresh, adrenaline-pumping experience. I can only imagine the thrill of navigating the 16 unique compounds and various environments while being chased by this fiery foe.
Hunt: Showdown continues to evolve, with the renowned horror-themed shooter extraction game by Crytek demonstrating growth for years now. It’s recently made its debut on current-gen consoles natively, but that’s not all – it also introduces a major update that rebrands it as Hunt: Showdown 1896, complete with numerous improvements and an abundance of fresh content.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled about the latest addition to our game world – Mammoth’s Gulch! This expansive map features an impressive 16 distinct locations, ranging from mines to charred and deserted towns. There’s also a new adversary on the loose, known as the Hellborn. As Crytek describes, it’s a relentless foe that swiftly incinerates any intruding Hunters, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. To deal with this menace effectively, speed is key, since its deafening roars can lure more Hunters to your position. Excitingly, all the previous maps in Hunt: Showdown will be revamped and upgraded for free as part of an upcoming post-launch update. The release date for this update hasn’t been announced yet.
Additionally, you’ll find the ongoing Scorched Earth in-game event, lasting until October 7th. This event offers fresh narrative insights about Mammoth’s Gulch, along with new gear rewards such as equipment, ammunition, and weapons. Furthermore, Crytek is launching a battle pass and a weekly challenge system, providing players with additional opportunities for advancement.
In essence, the first-person shooter game “Hunt: Showdown” from 1896 is now upgraded with a newer engine – CryEngine 5.11. This update brings about elevated visual quality, as well as advancements in areas like lighting, character animations, audio design, and other aspects. On PS5 and Xbox Series X, it runs smoothly at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, while on the Xbox Series S, it aims for a 1440p resolution at the same frame rate. Additionally, gameplay enhancements include better controls, new types of wildlife, refined gunplay, and more.
Simultaneously, it’s important to note that this update also signifies that Crytek is no longer providing support for Hunt: Showdown on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However, there is a free upgrade path available. In the future, the game will not be playable on older consoles.
1896’s “Hunt: Showdown” is now playable on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and personal computers. You can find all details about its major update in the linked patch notes, and enjoy its launch trailer below.
