As a devoted movie enthusiast, now that Andor has drawn its final chapter, conversations about potential spin-offs have been ignited, even among the show’s talented cast like Adria Arjona. Among these discussions, one idea stands out as particularly promising. Tony Gilroy, the mastermind behind Andor, initially conceived it as a five-season series, with each season chronicling a year from Cassian Andor’s life and the Rebellion’s struggle, starting five years before the Battle of Yavin (the fateful day when the first Death Star was destroyed) and leading us right up to the events depicted in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
While the second season of “Andor” did indeed cover the promised years, its abbreviated run may pave the way for potential spinoffs to delve into the gaps created by “Andor’s” distinctive, time-jumping narrative. Actors Diego Luna and Adria Arjona have expressed a wish for a standalone spinoff that could explore their characters’ love story, but what if “Star Wars” took this idea a step further? What if Star Wars instead centered around the possibilities born from their love?
Andor Season 2 Ended With The Perfect Setup
In the finale of season 2 of Andor, we encountered an unexpected character: Bix Caleen and Cassian Andor’s child. This revelation has sparked debate, particularly among the female fanbase of the show, with discussions encompassing everything from gender-biased portrayals in media to how the baby symbolizes the ideals of the Rebellion – and more personally, Cassian’s own values – such as love, independence, and freedom. Each viewer’s personal background would have shaped their response to the show’s closing scene, but its impact on the franchise could be far-reaching.
As a movie critic reflecting on the gripping finale of the “Andor” series, I’ve been left pondering about the enigmatic Cassian and Bix, especially their unborn child. With the rich history of the “Star Wars” universe, it’s always intriguing to see how they breathe life into seemingly minor characters or forge deep connections with iconic ones. So, I couldn’t help but wonder if the baby’s identity was a topic of discussion during the creative process that led to such a pivotal revelation.
Gilroy firmly said no, while Arjona gave a more enigmatic response. She cryptically stated, “I’m sorry, but I can’t reveal that,” and hinted at a “theoretical solution.” In summary, the identity of the baby remains uncertain, making it an intriguing prospect for a spinoff.
I Have No Idea Who Bix’s Baby Really Is
Some people have proposed that Bix’s child might eventually develop into Poe Dameron, the skilled Resistance pilot character played by Oscar Isaac in the Star Wars sequel series. Frankly, I oppose this concept or anything analogous (the notion of Din Djarin being a relative has been discussed too). It perpetuates the belief that everyone within Star Wars must be linked in some way, and would only serve to make the canon excessively intricate. The parentage of Poe Dameron has been explored in the Star Wars comics, and the franchise frequently replaces written canon with on-screen events. There’s no need to complicate things further.
From a cinephile’s perspective, it’s clear that we only have insight into this child’s family lineage. A character as enigmatic as this one, with much left to be discovered, presents a wealth of intriguing narrative opportunities within the Star Wars universe. How will their father’s rich legacy shape their journey through the cosmos? What secrets about the Rebellion might they uncover from their mother? More importantly, what tales could unfold for them beyond the major conflicts between the Rebellion and the Empire, delving into the vast expanse of stories that lie in the greater galaxy far, far away?
Just because Bix and Cassian’s child has parents who were part of the Rebellion doesn’t guarantee they’ll follow in their footsteps. A spinoff centered around their unnamed child could give creators an opportunity to explore the story they find most significant, while still linking back to the series Andor. This setup offers a clear, relatable foundation and limitless creative possibilities. What could be better?
It Would Be Wonderful To See Adria Arjona Return In A Starring Role
In simpler terms, the character of Cassian Andor played a pivotal role in exploring the roots and challenges faced by the Rebel Alliance, including personal sacrifices, moral quandaries, and tactical decisions that fueled the rebellion. His journey was just as significant as the Rebellion itself, while Bix Caleen (played by Adria Arjona) served more as a supporting character within this broader storyline. Although Bix was an important figure in Cassian’s life, her departure from him in the second season of Andor underscores how deeply committed Cassian was to the Rebellion cause.
Bix, a character from Andor, stands out as one of the most intriguing figures not only due to her relationship with Cassian, but also because her unique perspective on the Rebellion significantly shaped her actions and the life she built for herself. Unlike Cassian, her involvement in the Rebellion was profoundly distinct, influencing her decisions and leading her to interact with Luthen Rael on Ferrix, as well as accompany Cassian to Coruscant and Yavin 4. Her conviction in the Rebellion’s cause was unwavering, a factor that played a crucial role in these events.
If Bix hadn’t been subjected to torture due to her connection with Cassian, or faced the need to flee Ferrix, endure ongoing trauma, or hide on a Rebel base, what options might she have pursued for her life? Ultimately, Bix yearned for tranquility. Her separation from Cassian, though partially driven by Rebellion duties, eventually enabled her to discover and attain the peace she longed and deserved.
It’d be exciting to explore more about Bix, who is courageous, faithful, and powerful, without her story being linked to Cassian. A spinoff focusing on Cassian and Bix’s child could offer Adria Arjona an opportunity to delve back into the character of Bix at a different phase in her life post-war. I look forward to seeing how she and her child evolve after the events portrayed in ‘Andor’.
