Previously, during CES 2025, Lenovo officially revealed its upcoming Legion Go S gaming handhelds.
It was there where we initially discovered that the company intended to launch a Legion Go S Windows edition in a white housing, priced at $729.99, and subsequently, around May 25, they planned to introduce a more affordable SteamOS version in a dark purple shell.
I found this news particularly captivating because it marks the debut of the first portable gaming device not developed by Valve that comes preinstalled with SteamOS.
It appears that the cost for the upcoming SteamOS gadget has been going up lately.
Initially, Lenovo indicated through their press release, which I received in January, that the base price for the upcoming SteamOS setup would be set at $499.99.
On the other hand, the active preorder site on Best Buy indicates that the base model is priced at $549.99. Additionally, they offer a higher-end configuration for $749.99 on their platform too.
Now, a $50 increase isn’t huge, but it is different enough to feel notable.
I contacted a Lenovo representative to inquire about the recent price hike, and here’s what they shared with me:
Just like numerous consumer tech items, the cost can fluctuate slightly due to differences in retail outlets and launch dates. Initially, we introduced a base price of $499 as our estimation for the product’s starting point. However, it’s important to note that the final price might experience slight adjustments based on factors such as configuration, sales channel, and other relevant variables. Individual retailers have the flexibility to establish their own pricing according to their promotional tactics or special deals.
To put it simply, Lenovo thought the initial cost would be around $499.99, however, Best Buy and possibly other retailers appear to have increased the price to $549.99 instead.
It seems unclear as to exactly why the handheld device’s Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price has risen, but considering the latest tariffs and economic troubles, it’s no wonder that prices are going up.
In fact, we’ll likely see other areas where tech costs go up.
What do you think about the upcoming Legion Go S (SteamOS) pricing?
