I Know What You Did Last Summer Reboot Adds Riverdale and Outer Banks Stars

As a huge fan of the original “I Know What You Did Last Summer” movie from 1997, I’m beyond excited for this upcoming project! The new film, with Camila Mendes, Madelyn Cline, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Hauer-King, Sarah Pidgeon, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Freddie Prinze Jr. in talks to join the cast, promises to bring back the thrilling mystery and suspense that made the first film a classic.

A new instalment of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” is being produced, according to “The Hollywood Reporter.” Camila Mendes (“Riverdale”), Madelyn Cline (“Outer Banks”), Tyriq Withers (“Atlanta”), Jonah Hauer-King (“The Little Mermaid”), and Sarah Pidgeon (Tony Award nominee) are reportedly in discussions to join the cast. The original stars, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr., have also reportedly been approached but their participation is yet to be confirmed by both parties. The upcoming “I Know What You Did Last Summer” is scheduled for release on July 18, 2025.

The 1997 film “I Know What You Did Last Summer” imitated the success of 1996’s “Scream” by featuring a new generation of rising stars for its teen-focused slasher storyline, with both movies penned by Kevin Williamson. Consequently, the anticipated “I Know What You Did Last Summer” (2022) is said to draw inspiration from the recent “Scream” (2022), where established characters mingled with fresh faces, differing from Amazon Prime Video’s adaptation of the same title, which presented a fresh take on the original idea.

In the initial film, the story is adapted from Lois Duncan’s 1973 novel with the same title. A gang of pals unintentionally strike someone while driving back from a shindig and mistakenly assume they have killed them. They then choose to conceal the body in the sea. However, a year later, these friends begin receiving ominous warnings about their impending deaths and their prior attempt to hide a crime. Joining Hewitt and Prinze in this original production were Ryan Phillippe, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Johnny Galecki.

In the follow-up film “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer,” Hewitt and Prinze reappeared, facing terror from a new antagonist due to their past actions in the first movie. The third installment, titled “I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer,” featured a different cast and focused on supernatural elements instead.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who co-wrote the script with Sam Lansky and initially penned down the script from an earlier draft by Leah McKendrick, will direct this upcoming movie. Neal Moritz, one of the original producers, will be producing it once again.

The new I Know What You Did Last Summer currently has a release date of July 18, 2025.
