I love Jack Black, but A Minecraft Movie with Matt Berry would have been next-level

I haven’t watched a Minecraft movie, but I believe the experience would have been uniquely spectacular if the original top pick for playing Steve had been chosen instead.

According to Puck’s latest reports, it wasn’t Jack Black who was initially chosen to play Steve. Instead, Matt Berry, a well-known actor from shows like The IT Crowd, What We Do in the Shadows, Toast of London, and the voice of Mr. Handy in Fallout, was originally cast for the role. Unfortunately, scheduling issues made it impossible for this casting to become a reality.

Over the years, I’ve had a strong fondness for Jack Black. If someone offers me the opportunity, I never hesitate to share my story of meeting him – it was in Las Vegas following a Tenacious D concert at CES not too long ago, and he even gave me a warm embrace! Although our interaction was brief, I can honestly say that he’s an exceptional individual.

I really like his films and music, but right now, I can’t help but imagine what a Minecraft Movie would be like if Matt Berry voiced Steve’s character. Berry is renowned for his distinct voice and the unparalleled manner in which he articulates words, giving them a delivery unlike anyone else.

It doesn’t mean Jack Black isn’t suitable, but rather he’s a unique match. There’s been plenty of discussion about Black’s ardor for Minecraft, and how often he played the game while filming. Such fervor can’t be replicated.

Without a doubt, Matt Berry is among my most beloved actors, and his voice never fails to captivate me. Despite this, he has a minor part in the film “A Minecraft Movie,” but since I haven’t had a chance to watch it myself, I can’t reveal any details.

Our pals over at PCGamer put it better than I ever could:

…”Out in the vast, unfathomable cosmos lies a world where Matt Berry became Steve in a Minecraft Film. It may not be much, but it gives us a sliver of hope to cling to.
