After spending a few weeks with the ASUS ROG Delta II, a high-end wireless gaming headset built specifically for Windows PCs, I find myself needing to adjust my perspective going forward.

Although they are on the expensive side, these cans continue to offer a strong value due to their exceptional sound quality and robust feature set. Moreover, they are distinctive, boasting unique triangular earcups and vibrant RGB illumination.

Although the ROG Delta II might not initially seem worth its price due to some noticeable imperfections, it still stands out as an excellent choice for PC gamers. These minor flaws don’t detract significantly from its overall quality.

It’s the lowest price you’ll find anywhere, but surprisingly, the ROG Delta II is marked higher at other stores such as Amazon and Best Buy, each charging around $259.99. For some unknown reason, there’s a $30 increase in price compared to other retailers.

Keep a lookout for sales or discounts at these retailers as they frequently offer prices that match or beat ASUS’ standard pricing for this headset, so take advantage of those deals when you can.

ROG Delta II review: What I like

As an analyst, I’ve noticed that the unique triangular earcup design of any ASUS Delta gaming headset makes it easily identifiable at a glance. Despite ASUS labeling it as “D-shaped,” these earcups are actually triangular in nature. This distinctive design aims to provide a more comfortable and adaptable fit for my ears, enhancing the overall user experience.

The ROG Delta II boasts stylish and adaptable RGB illumination along its triangular ear cups, allowing it to make an impression while still maintaining a non-disruptive aesthetic. Additionally, there’s a useful LED on the microphone that lights up red when it’s muted.

On the Delta II headset, you’ll notice a variety of physical controls spread across both earcups. This is a unique feature of ASUS’ dual-mode connectivity approach. This headset can link to two devices at once – one via 2.4GHz wireless and another via Bluetooth. Remarkably, each connection comes with its own independent control setup.

mastering these controls might initially seem complex and could require some patience, yet they offer a more precise handling of your audio streams’ intricacies.

On the left ear cup, you’ll locate the power switch (which manages the standard 2.4GHz link), an adjustable volume control that serves as both a mute/unmute function, and a versatile button for controlling media playback and switching RGB illumination on or off.

This system performs exceptionally well and facilitates genuine multi-source audio streaming. It allows you to simultaneously enjoy two distinct tracks if you wish, although many users typically have game audio on 2.4GHz and music or calls over Bluetooth. The advantage here is that you won’t inadvertently disrupt one connection while managing the other, and this versatility outweighs the complexity of controls.

Regarding wireless functionality, the ROG Delta II performed exceptionally well in my experience. I never experienced any disconnections, lag, or static, not even when moving throughout my house while using it with two devices simultaneously.

The ASUS product claims up to 110 hours of usage; however, this figure is under ideal conditions that may not be achievable in practical use. Nevertheless, I found the battery life to be exceptionally good even with RGB lighting activated and dual connectivity enabled. In case you find yourself running low on power, there’s always the option of using the 3.5mm audio jack as a backup.

In a noteworthy fashion, ASUS finely tuned the 50mm titanium-coated drivers. This results in the ROG Delta II delivering a comprehensive, crisp, balanced sound quality that seamlessly adapts to gaming, music, movies, voice calls, and other applications.

The bass in this setup has a strong yet controlled punch, not overpowering other frequencies like the mids and highs. The mids are somewhat muted compared to the treble. The ROG Delta II headset doesn’t deliver the most expansive or dynamic sound, but it offers a well-balanced base that you can customize according to your preferences, which ASUS allows for perfectly.

Instead of installing the entire ASUS Armoury Crate software package, you can opt for a lighter version called “Armoury Crate Gear” specifically designed for the ROG Delta II, especially if you own only this ASUS product. Having such an alternative is quite beneficial to me.

In this setup, you’ll find numerous adjustment options. There are several sound optimization settings at your disposal, an 8-band equalizer with different predefined settings, and switches for simulated 7.1 surround sound, reverb effects, bass amplification, voice clarity enhancement, and a compressor tool.

To maintain the versatile sound quality of the ROG Delta II, which is ideal for my extensive music listening, you will find numerous adjustment options to tailor the headset to your personal gaming preferences.

In other areas, I can personalize features like the RGB illumination within the earcups, adjust power modes, a simple channel mixer, choices to tweak the screen resolution and sample rate, and a few fundamental mic settings.

ROG Delta II review: What I don’t like

Initially, I was skeptical about the triangular ear cups on the ROG Delta II improving comfort, but I found that they provide a surprisingly snug and roomy fit. However, its comfort issues lie elsewhere in the design of the headset.

This gaming headset weighs approximately 318 grams, making it relatively lightweight. This lightness is due to its plastic construction. Although I never worried about the ROG Delta II breaking, the headband is slim and the padding on it is limited.

This headset features a gentle grip that could cause it to shift positions occasionally. Consequently, individuals with smaller skull sizes might find it challenging to achieve a snug and comfortable fit.

I appreciate that ASUS provides users with a choice of two different earcup materials – breathable fabric and soft faux leather – within the package. However, changing these earcups might prove to be a bit tricky.

This removable, one-way microphone is fairly standard, I must say. It serves its purpose well enough for gaming discussions and video calls, but it lacks the quality, richness, and noise reduction found in top-tier headset microphones.

Although the ROG Delta II boasts a distinctive dual-device audio streaming function, it doesn’t rank high among versatile accessories for multiple platforms. Unfortunately, its software is exclusive to PCs, meaning you can’t adjust settings or audio directly from your mobile device. Furthermore, there’s no wireless compatibility with Xbox, making the ROG Delta II ineligible for our list of top-rated Xbox headsets.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that there are excellent wireless gaming headsets available for under $200. So, if you don’t plan on using the multi-source audio streaming feature of the ROG Delta II, you might not find its value justifiable.

This headset performs exceptionally well, boasting D-shaped earcups for unexpected comfort and 50mm drivers providing balanced and precise audio. The software allows for customizing sound preferences to your liking, and the RGB illumination can be kept on without worrying about battery drain.

The ROG Delta II stands out due to a distinctive trait: it supports multiple audio streaming sources from two distinct control systems, one for 2.4GHz wireless and another for Bluetooth. While not everyone may require this feature, those who do are likely to find it extremely useful.

If you belong to that first category, you might discover a superior choice somewhere else. On the other hand, for most people, the ASUS ROG Delta II could serve as a reliable ally, priced at $229.99 from ASUS.
