Millie Bobby Brown is sharing an important message.
Following a barrage of critical remarks from internet trolls who claimed she was aging poorly, the actress from “Stranger Things” highlighted that such criticism reflects a deeper societal problem concerning women.
In the video she posted on Instagram on March 3rd, Millie expressed a desire to discuss an issue she believes transcends personal boundaries, something that significantly impacts young women who are subjected to the glare of public attention.
At age 21, Millie reminisced about her quick climb to fame, remembering it all started when she was just a 10-year-old newcomer in the business. She landed her breakthrough part on Stranger Things not long afterward.
She went on to say, “Growing up in the limelight has been my reality, but it seems people struggle to grow alongside me. Instead, they expect me to remain stuck in my past, as if I should resemble the character I played in the first season of ‘Stranger Things.’ Since I don’t conform to these expectations, I’ve become a target.
Apart from internet users, Millie, the star of ‘Enola Holmes’, has also been targeted by several media outlets. Notably, she responded to criticism about her appearance at the premiere of ‘Electric State’ in February. In fact, she pointed out various news articles that criticized her for looking older or questioned cosmetic procedures she may have undergone on her face.
Millie pointed out, “What you’re seeing here isn’t journalism; it’s harassment. It’s unsettling how some grown writers focus on critiquing my appearance, my lifestyle, and my decisions. The fact that some of these articles are penned by women makes it even more disheartening.
Millie additionally pointed out critics who belittle women for increased online engagement, stating, “We frequently discuss encouraging and empowering young women, but it appears simpler to undermine them for more views. It’s disheartening to witness people who can’t accept a girl growing into a woman on her own terms, not theirs.
In spite of the criticism and backlash aimed at Florence by Mills’ founder, she maintains her stand that she will not offer an apology for her upbringing.
Millie asserted, “I won’t adjust myself to meet unreasonable standards set by those who struggle with my growth from a girl into a woman. I will not allow myself to be belittled due to my appearance, clothing choices, or self-expression.
For those preferring to express negativity instead of positivity, Millie – who married Jake Bongiovi in May 2024 after three years together – encourages them to reflect on themselves.
She asked, “If you find issue with that, I’m curious, what exactly is causing your discomfort?
Millie suggested, “Let’s strive to improve things. It’s not just about me, but also for every young girl who should be able to live without the anxiety of being judged or harmed for just being who they are.
