I Still Hope Elizabeth Olsen Will Play Scarlet Witch Again, But I’m Beyond Excited About Her New Movie With MCU Vet Oscar Isaac

Whenever a new project featuring Elizabeth Olsen is unveiled, it’s hard not to ponder if or how this new role might impact her future portrayal of the Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the Doctor Strange sequel. While I’m quite excited about her eerie-sounding FX pilot with Cristin Milioti, her recent involvement in an upcoming horror film has now moved it to one of my most eagerly awaited upcoming movies.

Elizabeth Olsen Is Joining A Fellow MCU Vet And A Twilight Megastar

Elizabeth Olsen has signed on for her latest major film role in the expanding ensemble of “Flesh of the Gods.” This upcoming project marks a significant addition to director Panos Cosmatos’ portfolio, having previously directed “Mandy” and “Beyond the Black Rainbow.” Joining the cast are Oscar Isaac, who plays Marvel’s Moon Knight, and Kristen Stewart, a former teen idol turned filmmaker. If these three actors were the only ones in the entire movie, it would still be a noteworthy production.

She’s Going From Playing A Superhero Witch To Playing An ’80s Vampire (Presumably)

Prepare for a journey back to Los Angeles during the 1980s, where our story Flesh of the Gods unfolds. The married duo, Oscar Isaac’s Raoul and Kristen Stewart’s Alex, are enjoying life to the fullest, particularly when it comes to the vibrant nightlife, in and around their high-end skyscraper apartment.

After encountering the enigmatic and captivating Nameless, led by Olsen, who is at the helm of a boisterous social circle known as a “hard partying cabal,” according to Deadline, their daily routines and habits significantly transform. As a result, Alex and Raoul find themselves immersed in a world brimming with hedonism, violence, and exhilaration beyond their wildest expectations.

The film is marketed as a “vampire thriller,” yet the synopsis isn’t very explicit about this aspect. It seems plausible that Nameless and her team are indeed vampires, but director Panos Cosmatos could be exploring ideas beyond the typical bloodsucking narrative, perhaps delving into more abstract or symbolic themes rather than a straightforward vampire action.

An Extra Reason To Be Excited: Se7en’s Screenwriter Wrote It

Without a doubt, the knowledge that Andrew Kevin Walker wrote the screenplay for “Flesh of the Gods” is sufficient reason for me to buy a ticket, and the outstanding cast merely serves as an added bonus. Among my top two favorite movies of all time, “Se7en” stands out, and the well-crafted script plays a significant role in that, alongside the brilliant direction of David Fincher and the movie’s exceptional actors.

Whether you’re not a fan of the 1995 classic or don’t share the view that it ranks among the greatest horror movies ever made, Walker has written equally impressive scripts for films like Brainscan, Hideaway, and 8mm, which were not as skillfully directed. He also penned Sleepy Hollow and Tim Fincher’s 2023 release The Killer, to name a few. Cosmatos, aside from Tim Burton, could be the most visually dark director to bring one of Walker’s scripts to life on screen, and I’m eagerly anticipating it.

Although Avengers: Doomsday is being made with no definite plans yet to reintroduce Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, there remains a glimmer of hope that she could have a significant role in Paul Bettany’s anticipated return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for his TV series, Vision. Until we learn more details, I’m keeping my excitement levels high by fantasizing about her portraying a vampire in a potential collaboration with Bella Swan herself.
