Caution! This discussion might reveal SPOILERS about Andor season 2. Here’s my take on a possible conclusion for Dedra, skillfully portrayed by Denise Gough: Dedra Meero, the ISB Supervisor who tirelessly pursued Cassian Andor and his links to Luthen Rael’s extensive rebellion network, was captured in the finale of Andor season 2. However, I believe her Star Wars tale doesn’t end there.
In the second season of the show ‘Andor’, we find Dedra being enlisted by Director Krennic for the Empire’s Ghorman initiative, a project involving widespread manipulation and eventual genocide, aimed at exploiting the planet’s resources for the Death Star project. Despite her involvement in this dark endeavor, Dedra remained committed to capturing “Axis” as part of her personal vendetta. By the series finale, Dedra’s pursuit of justice ultimately leads to her demise; yet, I believe there’s an extra chapter to her tale that offers a satisfying dose of poetic retribution.
Dedra Was Imprisoned At The End Of Andor Season 2
A Facility Not Unlike Narkina 5
Following the tragic Ghorman Massacre, Dedra stumbled upon confidential documents detailing the Death Star project. She chose not to disclose this oversight and instead used the information to help her locate Axis. Unfortunately for Dedra, Luthen’s spy within the ISB managed to acquire her access codes and passed on intel about the Death Star to Luthen. This revelation was instrumental in alerting the Rebel Alliance to the Empire’s covert construction of their powerful weapon, a fact that Cassian Andor later confirmed at the start of Rogue One.
With Luthen taking his own life following Dedra’s decision to face him alone, she was arrested by the ISB. At the very least, it seemed as though Dedra might have been a Rebel sympathizer. At most, her actions displayed incompetence, as she disregarded numerous protocols, causing a significant intelligence breach. In essence, despite her commitment to upholding the Empire and its cosmic system, Dedra’s mistake led her to be imprisoned in an Imperial detention center, much like Cassian Andor on Narkina 5.
Four Years Later, Dedra Will Likely Discover The Truth of Luthen’s Words
“A Whole Galaxy Waiting To Disgust You”
Before Luthen fatally wounds himself and Kleya confirms his death in the finale of Andor season 2, episode 10, the man instrumental in setting up the Rebel Alliance informs Dedra that their cause has spread beyond Coruscant and is now present everywhere: “There’s an entire galaxy out there, ready to shock you.” It seems Luthen’s prediction proves accurate for Dedra, as she may have missed the Galactic Civil War entirely due to her incarceration.
Four years following the events depicted in Andor‘s second season, the Galactic Civil War concludes, leaving the Empire in ruins. The emerging New Republic administration is striving to restore freedom and democracy across the galaxy. This change could potentially mean the liberation of individuals like Dedra Meero who were previously imprisoned, even Dedra herself. It’s quite fulfilling to imagine Dedra Meero re-emerging into galactic society, discovering that the regime she once loyally served no longer exists (including the Emperor, both Death Stars, and everything associated with them).
Was Dedra Sent To The Mandalorian’s New Republic Amnesty Program?
Would She Try And Join The Imperial Remnant?
Despite eventually being shunned by the Empire, Dedra remained an Imperial at heart. It’s possible that she could have been admitted to the New Republic Amnesty Program, introduced in The Mandalorian season 3. However, it was revealed within the series that this program contained both loyalists and spies working for the Imperial Remnant.
If Dedra truly despises the galaxy as she’s been locked up, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Meero found himself aligned with some Remnant faction during the New Republic era. It’d be thrilling to catch a glimpse of the ex-ISB Supervisor again in future Star Wars series set during that time. But whatever happens next for Dedra, learning the truth behind Luthen’s words seems like her destiny, no matter what the future may or may not bring for her in the galaxy far, far away.
