I Wasn’t Even Mad

Bowen Yang and Chappell Roan are good to go.

The singer known as “Red Wine Supernova” put an end to any remaining questions about her feelings towards the comedian, who referenced Chappell and mimicked baby pygmy hippopotamus Moo Deng in a sketch on Saturday Night Live in September 2024, by making it clear that she was not offended.

During a conversation on the podcast “Las Culturistas” on April 16, the Grammy winner expressed that she remained unfazed by the viral incident, stating she wasn’t upset at all. Matt Rogers had earlier mentioned how viewers were criticizing the sketch.

After Matt suggested that he believed she might find the parody amusing, Chapell indeed shared that very sentiment, expressing it as, “Yes, I did! I didn’t have any strong feelings about it.

After that, the singer made clear again that she isn’t angry over the situation. Later on, Bowen shared a conversation he had with their common friend Sasha Colby regarding the criticism they faced.

He remembered saying, “Is everything alright with her?” to which Sasha responded, “Yes, she’s laughing. She’s enjoying herself.” To which he replied, “Alright, then that’s good news.

Chappell subsequently labeled Bowen’s depiction as “playful” and “innocuous,” emphasizing that it was unnecessary for fans to engage in fights on her behalf or to articulate her feelings.

The 27-year-old clarified, “There’s no need for others to get upset on my account. We’re doing well. So, why should anyone be angry? Moreover, this situation is just like Saturday Night Live – it’s humor.

She went on to say that no matter how far someone might take it, it remains harmless. To her, it’s humor. She simply can’t discern where the boundary lies anymore.

Chappell further elaborated that she’s discovered strength in not always voicing her opinions or disclosing her thoughts openly. To her, at times, keeping quiet can be the most effective method when dealing with recent events concerning herself, which explains why she remained silent on the ongoing dispute until now.

She pointed out, “Regardless of whether or not the Moo Deng sketch amused you, it wasn’t necessary to comment on it. You always have the choice to remain silent. Interestingly enough, people either defending me in that instance or choosing not to didn’t affect how I felt.

Chappell stated, “I neither felt protected nor did I feel vulnerable. This was because the situation didn’t require protection, and I wasn’t offended in any way.

Bowen, too, failed to comprehend the backlash or the idea that he appeared to be making fun of the singer in his performance.

Uh-oh, ‘Mocks’? It seems that if my stance and the content I shared don’t make it clear that I support her, then I suppose that’s the case,” he wrote on Instagram September 29, alongside a screenshot of an article. “I guess every request she’s ever made has been reasonable, and we can tie it to another discussion about respect or limits. I really need a break right now…

In a lighthearted manner, the celebrity known from the Kardashians show joked about her past with ex-partner Kanye West, her link to O.J. Simpson, and sister Kourtney Kardashian’s intense relationship with Travis Barker. However, it was during an Aladdin-themed skit where she shared a kiss with cast member Pete Davidson that truly stood out. Their relationship lasted for approximately nine months following this incident.

10 times he’s hosted shows – even the first one filmed remotely during the coronavirus pandemic in April 2020 – proves that when “America’s Dad” is in Studio 8H, it’s going to be a delightful experience. Not convinced? Just remember these three words: David S. Pumpkins!

Back in 2008, I left the audience spellbound as I showcased my impressive comic skills for the very first time as the host. Since then, I’ve graced the stage twice more and even popped up unexpectedly in a few delightful cameos. It’s always a pleasure to bring laughter and joy to people!

As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but express my awe for this extraordinary individual. From his hilariously memorable “Jon Hamm’s John Ham” skit – you know, the lunch meat you occasionally enjoy while… well, let’s just say it involves bathroom breaks – to his live-action portrayal of Ace in the adaptation of the legendary Ambiguously Gay Duo animated sketch, he has effortlessly won over cast members in a way that very few hosts have managed.

It’s hard to find anyone more dedicated to their work than the legendary figure from Bridesmaids. For instance, during her debut as a host in 2011, she showcased her dedication by dousing herself in Hidden Valley ranch dressing for a joke in one of the sketches – “Taste Test”.

Within just under ten years, she has managed to become part of an exclusive group known as the Five-Timers Club, and started appearing frequently, albeit quite agitatedly, alongside Sean Spicer during his stint in the Trump administration.

Almost every celebrity on this list had the potential to be a permanent cast member on Saturday Night Live (SNL), given their talent. Justin Timberlake, in particular, came close to joining the SNL family during his time there. His five appearances as host brought iconic moments into pop culture, such as “Omletteville,” “Dk in a Box,” and “Barry Gibb Talk Show.” Additionally, his role as one of Beyoncé’s backup dancers in “Single Ladies” alongside Bobby Moynihan and Andy Samberg was simply incredible.

Only a handful of individuals have had the privilege of hosting SNL more times than the legendary comedian, and interestingly enough, there’s just one person who fits this description. Over the course of 16 appearances in Studio 8H from 1976 to 2009, he crafted iconic characters like the “wild and crazy” Festrunk Brothers and King Tut. Furthermore, during his tenure, he delivered one of the show’s most touching tributes – a poignant remembrance of Gilda Radner’s passing from cancer, which included a heartfelt look back at a delightful dance they shared within the studio.

As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but marvel at the deep bond Scarlett Johansson shares with the SNL family, forged through her romantic ties with Colin Jost. Yet, even beyond this connection, ScarJo has etched herself into the annals of Saturday Night Live history, as evidenced by the unforgettable moments she’s crafted since her debut in 2006, serving as a six-time host and leaving an indelible mark on the show.

She’s been ready to fill in when the show required someone to stand in for Ivanka Trump, starred in the bizarre Shud the Mermaid skit alongside Kate McKinnon, and portrayed Lexi (Fred Armisen’s Mark’s daughter) in the beloved sketch where they were peddling chandeliers, ceramic statues, marble columns, and porcelain fountains.

Unlike other individuals on this roster, the late TV legend had only hosted Saturday Night Live on a single occasion. Remarkably, she held the title of the oldest host ever at 88 years old during that appearance. The unique aspect of her stint was that it was driven by fan demand following her role in The Proposal, which gained momentum via a successful Facebook campaign initiated by Emily Blunt.

In essence, she earned her place on this list due to her side-splitting humor. One of our favorite sketches from the episode features Tina Fey as an insistent census taker who fails repeatedly in extracting a straightforward response from White.

Johnson secured a place on this exclusive list as soon as he accepted the challenge for “The Rock Obama.” This fact speaks for itself.

Amongst his numerous hosting stints (17, to be exact) and various appearances as ex-President Donald Trump, Baldwin stands out as the star who might be most linked with Saturday Night Live, other than those on its official payroll. From timeless sketches like Canteen Boy and Schweddy Balls to his impressions of Tony Bennett and, indeed, Trump, Baldwin has provided fans with a wealth of entertainment throughout his numerous visits to Studio 8H.
