Iconic Scream Star Admits They Haven't Officially Signed on for a Scream 7 Return

As a seasoned gamer of horror films, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation mixed with a pinch of skepticism about the upcoming Scream 7. With Courteney Cox hinting at her potential return as Gale Weathers, yet not officially signing the deal, it leaves us hanging on the edge of our seats. The rollercoaster ride of cast changes and uncertainty has become a signature move for this franchise, much like how Ghostface toys with his victims before striking the final blow.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but feel excited about the possibility of seeing Gale Weathers in Scream 7! According to Courteney Cox herself, it seems like she might be back for this upcoming horror sequel, although nothing is set in stone just yet. Since she’s been part of all six previous installments of the franchise, I’m hoping that means we’ll get to see more of Gale Weathers’ story unfold. However, Courteney also mentioned that the script is still being worked on, which leads me to believe that the specifics of Gale’s appearance and involvement in Scream 7 haven’t been decided just yet. Here’s to hoping for a thrilling return!

The lineup for Scream 7 has been fluctuating, sparking much discussion about the film. After missing the previous installment due to a salary disagreement, Neve Campbell is set to rejoin the cast. However, Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera departed in March, leaving their roles undecided. As for Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding, it’s unclear if they will return to the film, but the original Scream screenwriter, Kevin Williamson, is confirmed to be on board, this time stepping into the director’s chair. In the past, Williamson has also served as a producer for all the Scream films and Halloween: H20, and he previously directed the 1999 film Teaching Mrs. Tingle.

“I’m not officially signed on,” Cox told Variety. “I’m not, but there will be a Scream 7.”

Campbell shared that it was the intriguing premise of the upcoming movie, focusing primarily on Sidney Prescott (Campbell), which drew her back to negotiations. While this character might have been overlooked in the past, their comeback after a brief hiatus from the series is being seen as the main attraction and the centerpiece for the new film.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Campbell expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the studio addressing her salary issues thoughtfully, and hinted that enthusiastic fans might witness some familiar faces from the franchise reappearing in the upcoming film.

According to ET, Campbell said, “We’ll go with Sidney as our guide,” likening the decision to the revival of Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween. He further explained, “They presented the idea to me, and it’s what drew me in. I adore these films; they’re such a blast to be involved in. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been a part of them, and I never thought I’d be joining a film that would endure for this long.

She remarked, “Fans are truly enthusiastic and devoted towards these movies; it’s amazing!” She continued, “I can’t wait to present them with another film.

The planned release for Scream 7 is coming up in late 2025.
