Microsoft Project Manager Merrill Fernando gained some attention last week when he humorously compared using Windows to leaving Earth and returning to solid ground, implying a preference for macOS.
Fernando mentioned his relief at returning to macOS after a compulsory hour on Windows,” as he shared an image of Katy Perry’s space journey. This post garnered more than 707,000 views and over 11,000 likes.
Perry reached meme status following comments made during and after her flight with Blue Origin.
Upon his return to Earth, Perry showed great enthusiasm by kissing the ground, an act that sparked a wave of amusement and laughter among many. The Daily Dot compiled some humorous responses, following a similar pattern as Fernando’s post comparing Windows and macOS.
It seems that many replies on X are meant as jokes. Once, using a MacBook at Microsoft could have been seen as blasphemous, but the organization has evolved beyond such attitudes. Notably, Fernando clarified that the computer he uses is actually provided by Microsoft.
I noted that, had Steve Ballmer remained CEO at Microsoft, his recent comment on Windows might have led to his dismissal. However, times have changed significantly from the Ballmer era.
Besides being given a work MacBook from Microsoft, Fernando also owns a Mac Studio which he employs for his podcast, newsletter, and open-source initiatives. Fernando’s top-viewed YouTube video offers advice on maximizing macOS for VS Code usage.
Microsoft adopted a multi-platform approach several years back, making its primary applications and services accessible on Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android systems.
Occasionally, the optimal variant of a Microsoft application can be found on a system other than Windows. For instance, when it comes to Outlook, there are quite a few people who believe that the Windows 11 version is subpar compared to others.
Employees at Microsoft utilize a range of devices, not only for ensuring applications function across multiple platforms, but also out of personal preference. In the past, when Windows Phones were prevalent, it was surprising to see Daniel Vávra from Warhorse Studios opt for a Windows Phone willingly.
10 years ago, the Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadell, was seen using an iPhone, which sparked criticism. Today, it’s quite normal for employees to utilize devices manufactured by different companies.
