Two years back, the co-heads of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran, unveiled the initial storyline for their revamped DC Universe titled “Gods and Monsters“. Recently, the season finale of the animated series Creature Commandos, which kickstarted the reintroduced DCU and officially launches this summer with Gunn’s Superman film, concluded a season filled with both divine beings and monstrous creatures.
In “A Very Funny Monster” season finale, Amanda Waller’s Task Force X, consisting of monstrous individuals like The Bride (Indira Varma), Nina Mazursky (Zoë Chao), Weasel (Sean Gunn), Dr. Phosphorus (Alan Tudyk) and led by Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo), were initially mobilized against the witch-goddess Circe (Anya Chalotra). However, it was revealed in the climax that the true monster wasn’t Circe but another entity altogether.
If you’re eagerly anticipating Season 2 of “Creature Commandos” and seeking similar content to pass the time, here are some suggestions for you:
1. “Gargoyles” – A series about a team of gargoyles who come to life at night and protect Manhattan.
2. “Beast Wars” – An animated series featuring transforming robots that take on animal forms, battling each other for control over their planet.
3. “Wolverine and the X-Men” – A cartoon series focusing on the X-Men, led by Wolverine, as they protect a school for mutant children from various threats.

5. “Ben 10” – A series about a boy who acquires an alien device that allows him to transform into various aliens, using their powers to save the world.
The Suicide Squad
The first DC movie directed by James Gunn, who made “The Suicide Squad” as a film about a team of villains in a war setting, is the R-rated remake of 2016’s “Suicide Squad”. This new squad includes characters like Harley Quinn (played by Margot Robbie), Bloodsport (Idris Elba), King Shark (Sylvester Stallone), Polka-Dot Man (David Dastmalchian), Ratcatcher 2 (Daniela Melchoir), and Peacemaker (John Cena). Joel Kinnaman plays a reluctant leader in this team. The film is as violent as it is funny and emotional, and it can be seen as a live-action version of “Creature Commandos”, with Sean Gunn also appearing in the movie.

Justice League: Gods and Monsters
In the first chapter of DCU, titled “Gods and Monsters,” similar to the 2015 animated “Justice League: Gods and Monsters,” the storyline is mirrored. This captivating animated movie from the DC Universe Animated Original series, directed by Sam Liu (known for episodes 2, 4, and 6 of “Creature Commandos”), presents an unusual take on the Justice League’s iconic heroes.
In the making of this film, visionary producer and animator Bruce Timm (known for Batman: The Animated Series) takes us into an ominous alternate reality. Superman, voiced by Benjamin Bratt from Law & Order, is depicted as Hernan Guerra, the offspring of General Zod; Batman, played by Michael C. Hall from Dexter, transforms into Kirk Langstrom, more famously known as Man-Bat; and Wonder Woman is Bekka, hailing not from Themyscira but from the warring nation of Ares.
