In simpler terms, advocates for democracy on a planet resembling Super Earth, known as the Helldivers, can now find it simpler and more hassle-free to protect and liberate planets within the Galactic War with the latest update of Helldivers 2.
Amidst the large-scale assault by the Illuminate on Super Earth, which started a week ago following the Galactic Emergency announcement, game developer Arrowhead Game Studios has reworked the method in which completing missions impacts collective endeavors to safeguard or free a planet under enemy occupation or subjugation.
Earlier in the game, players needed to complete an entire “series” consisting of three missions to make a difference in the ongoing storyline. Jumping into a mission from another series before finishing your current one would erase all your progress. Moreover, if you couldn’t finish all three stages within the timeframe of a defense or attack campaign, it meant you didn’t contribute anything to the battle effort.
With the latest update, each completed mission will influence the course of campaigns more directly. Successfully wrapping up operations will grant extra influence as a reward.
In a recent announcement on the official Helldivers Discord server, Arrowhead revealed they’re updating their backend system, modifying how ‘impact’ is handled. Impact refers to the damage players inflict on enemy planets or defend against events. Earlier, Helldivers had to finish an operation, typically consisting of three missions, in order for impact to be distributed.
She explained, “From now on, every mission you undertake will have an effect, and completing an operation will give you extra impact as well. This is designed so that anyone participating in missions can confidently state they’ve helped ensure the galaxy’s safety, even if the operation isn’t fully completed.
This streamlines the process of learning your role in Managed Democracy, as Helldivers 2 could have done a better job explaining the operational requirements. Moreover, it caters to the ‘occasional diver’ who may not be able to commit to lengthy missions due to time constraints, allowing them to play just once or twice during a campaign. Additionally, it offers an extra incentive for dedicated players who often complete full operations, rewarding them with increased impact.

As a dedicated fan, I’ve been eagerly anticipating an improvement to the “impact” system since the launch of Helldivers 2 back in February last year. Admittedly, it’s been a bit longer than expected for this update, but considering the timing, it couldn’t have been more perfectly timed.
In our relentless struggle to halt and diminish the progress of the Illuminate’s colossal armada as it nears Super Earth, it’s clear that each tiny success will significantly impact our ability to defend ourselves when we eventually face the squids on Earth, our home planet. As such, every mission completed, especially now with the updated impact mechanism in place, will yield some benefit.
In the end, will our efforts to save Super Earth prove sufficient? That’s yet to be determined, but here’s some encouraging news: each and every Helldiver – from those who join casually to those who fight passionately on the front lines – now has the power to impact the Galactic War. So, troopers, suit up and get ready to battle! If you can only spare a mission or two at a time, know that your efforts might just be the key to a final victory against seemingly insurmountable odds. And remember, if you’re equipped with the finest Illuminate loadout, you’ll have an even greater impact in the fight for survival.
Helldivers 2 holds a strong position among the top-tier choices for both PC and PS5 gamers, particularly those who enjoy cooperative shooter games, fast-paced sci-fi action, wacky physics humor, and satirical writing. Normally retailing at around $40, it’s worth keeping an eye out for deals to lower the price. Currently, the most attractive offer can be found at CDKeys, where they’re offering a discount of more than $5, making it possible to grab this explosive game for less than $35.
