I’m So Proud of You

Oprah Winfrey’s support for Gayle King is truly out of this world.

On April 14, as her lifelong friend embarked on a journey to space with Blue Origin, the media tycoon couldn’t hide her emotions. After the spaceflight crew safely returned to Earth, she openly expressed her feelings about the event.

70-year-old Gayle expressed to TopMob News during the TIME100 Gala in New York City on April 24 that she was filled with emotion. She mentioned at some point that she was proud of me (For further coverage from the event, catch TopMob News tonight, April 24 at 11 p.m.)

However, the host on CBS Mornings promptly explained why her long-time friend was visibly emotional.

In response, people assumed she was anxious due to a forthcoming event, but Gayle clarified that her tears were actually born from understanding the effort it took for him to accomplish this feat. Upon his return, she expressed her pride in him, saying “I am so proud of you. You did that and I’m so proud of you.

It’s worth noting that Oprah always had confidence in the all-female expedition, which featured notable figures like Katy Perry and Lauren Sánchez.

“She always said I was gonna be OK,” Gayle added. “And Oprah knows things.”

It’s common knowledge that Gayle had some reservations about the journey at first, and her face as she got on the spaceship even inspired a popular internet joke.

In that instant, I was gripped by fear, longing to find my seat, allowing the training to take over. Speaking at a press conference following the brief flight, I shared that I yearned to enter the capsule and settle down, making the ascent somewhat intimidating for me.

But a little apprehension wasn’t enough to deter Gayle from blasting off.

During an interview with Oprah Daily on April 14, she stated that she had always known she would follow through with her plan. However, she added that they warned us if we were backing out, we needed to do so before 2 minutes and 30 seconds, saying ‘I’m not going to fly.’ Nevertheless, the memes suggest that she was a bit nervous as she got on board.
